Francia Raisa will forever be connected to her longtime best friend Selena Gomez after she made the selfless decision to donate one of her kidneys to Sel. This was a choice that is helping the “Bad Liar” singer live a much healthier life, but Francia obviously had a serious procedure done too and it wasn’t easy.

“At the time I was 28-years-old and I couldn’t do things for myself – and I’m a very independent woman, so it was brutal. I couldn’t get out of bed without needing help. I couldn’t shower, couldn’t walk and I couldn’t even open a door. It was a very humbling experience and I’ve learned a lot,” Francia said to Rogue magazine about the surgery. And it’s not like she’s been sitting around just chilling, she’s remained super busy working. The actress is currently starring on grown-ish, Yara Shahidi’s black-ish spinoff series, and she’s not shying away from hiding the scar she now has from it all. Girl is proudly showing it off and it’s all types of fabulous.

At the premiere of grown-ish, Francia walked the red carpet in a crop top, so you can easily her scar and of course she looked as fabulous as ever.

And back in October of 2017 when she attended People‘s Ones to Watch party, she posed on the red carpet in a sheer, sparkly bodysuit with her scars visible through her top. Watch the video to see Francia slaying the red carpet, not even bothering to cover her scar:

Francia looks stunning and the fact that she’s proudly showing off her scars from the surgery proves she doesn’t think of this situation as something to hide but instead, one to embrace. She made a choice that helped save her best friend’s life and that is something so commendable. She’s letting other people out there know if they too have a scar, there’s no need to hide it at all, it’s all a part of you and there’s nothing wrong with that in the slightest. Selena shared a look at the scar she has on her stomach now on Instagram too.

And she opened up to Billboard about how it took some adjusting to learn to love her scar but now, she fully embraces it.

“I do [feel comfortable with my scar]. I didn’t, but I do now. It was really hard in the beginning. I remember looking at myself in the mirror completely naked and thinking about all the things that I used to b—h about and just asking, ‘Why?’ I had someone in my life for a very long time who pointed out all the things that I didn’t feel great about with myself. When I look at my body now, I just see life. There are a million things I can do — lasers and creams and all that stuff — but I’m OK with it. And by the way, there’s nothing wrong with [plastic surgery]. I just think for me, it could be my eyes, my round face, my ears, my legs, my scar. I don’t have perfect abs, but I feel like I’m wonderfully made,” Selena said.

Now that is the ideal attitude to have! Francia isn’t trying to hide the big sacrifice she made for her lifelong bestie either and when she was able to head back to the gym and start working out again, she took to Instagram to share a video where you guessed it, the scars on her stomach from the surgery are visible. “Happy to be back,” she wrote in the caption.

These battle scars are a constant reminder of their forever bond and of the fact that these two really are family now, which Francia touched upon when she shared her own message about her surgery on Instagram.

“I am beyond grateful that God would trust me with something that not only saved a life, but changed mine in the process. This was part of our story, and we will share it soon, but what is important now is that this is not the only story. For more information regarding Lupus, please go to the Lupus Research Alliance website: www.lupusresearch.org — Love you sis, so glad we’re on this journey together. ❤️ xx,” Francia wrote in the caption of the photo she shared of the girls in the hospital together.

And these scars are another part of the story of their magical friendship.
