Every Disney fan knows by now that “Reflection” from Mulan is one of the most iconic songs, ever, but what if we told you that it almost didn’t make it into the movie at all! Yep, according to composer Matthew Wilder, the track was almost taken out of the film!

“Word came down from on high that they wanted us to cut the song from the score,” he told Insider.

So, what did they end up doing? Well, on “The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast,” Matthew revealed that they “fought tooth and nail to keep it in.”

He added, “We believed so strongly in the song and the compromise that we came to, with the powers that be, was that we were only going to showcase half the song in the movie.”

As fans know, the song became a major hit and is even showcased in the live-action Mulan — which hit Disney+ on Friday, September 4. For those who missed it, the flick faced some major backlash after news hit the web that Mulan would be available to stream on Disney+ for $29.99 whether you were a subscriber or not. But, don’t worry, because the streaming service recently announced that in December 2020, the highly-anticipated flick will be released to all subscribers for no extra fee.

According to the website, the film is available “with Premier Access for $29.99 before its release to all Disney+ subscribers on December 4, 2020.” So, if you don’t want to spend extra money to see the film — which skipped its theatrical release due to the coronavirus pandemic — then mark your calendars!

“We’re pleased to bring Mulan to a consumer base that’s been waiting for it as we’ve had to move our (release) dates several times,” CEO Bob Chapek said in a statement to Deadline after it was announced the the movie would be headed to the streaming service.

The highly-anticipated, live-action remake stars Liu Yifei as the rebellious female warrior alongside Donnie YenJason Scott LeeYoson AnGong LiJet Li and more.
