It was a day One Direction fans remember all too well: Dec. 13, 2015 was the last time Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson took to the stage together. They performed “History” on the X-Factor finale, returning home to where it all began for them to say goodbye to an era. Let’s relive it, shall we?

It’s been nearly three years and since then, each guy has been doing his own thing from making solo music, filming a movie, to having babies. It’s been a TIME. Naturally, whenever any of the guys have done any sort of interview since they’ve temporarily gone their separate ways, everyone wants to know if a reunion is going to happen. This time around, it was Liam who was faced with the lingering question about the fate of 1D yet again at the BMI Awards in London and he confirmed the possibility of a reunion is very likely.

“There is, definitely. I saw Louis recently for something that I cannot say. I’ve been in touch with Niall and Harry a little bit. I think it would be nice if we could get back together, but we’ll see. In time. All in good time,” the 25-year-old singer said.

OK, let’s just appreciate how Payno is keeping tabs on his brothers, letting us all know they really are still the best of friends. Not too long ago while Louis was hanging out with his fellow X Factor judges speaking to Dan Wootton, he was asked if the 1D lads will ever get back together. And in typical Louis fashion, he gave us the honest truth and it’s a big YES from him too.

“We’re all just enjoying our time, but for me, there’s no way with a band like One Direction that it’s not going to happen again. It’s just impossible to say when. It’s got to,” Louis said. How perfect is it that the 26-year-old singer is now a judge on the show where he got his start though? Talk about coming full circle! But Tommo is legit promising us this reunion WILL indeed happen one day, it’s just unknown exactly when. And it’s something he’s said before too, so we know he means it.

“There is no question of if – it’s a must. And I think we’re all on the same page with that one. It would be too difficult for any of us to say no. It’s one of those ones,” Louis said in 2017. And his 1D bros have all confirmed it will happen eventually too. When Liam appeared on TRL in 2017, he enthusiastically spoke about how it’s a real possibility that the reunion can happen sooner rather than later.

“I feel like it’s going to happen soon, I’ve got a feeling. I’m excited for it. I want it to happen. There was a whole album that we didn’t tour, I know we need to go and write some more music. It was so much fun and everyone loves it so much so we have to go again, for sure,” he said. And when someone on Twitter claimed Liam said a 1D reunion was “ruled out,” he set the record straight, saying that no, he actually never said that.

And the reassurance didn’t stop there from Payno. In yet another interview, the “Strip That Down” crooner got even more specific as to when he thinks the crew will give things another go.

“Where are we now in 2017? I would say sometime after 2020. That’s what I’m betting on, put my money on it, put my house on it!” Liam said. Just precious. Can always count on Liam to give us glimmers of hope. All four remaining members have said YES, over and over again that the band is going to get back together one day. Niall once said that there’s no rush since the guys are still so young and have plenty of time left in their careers to properly get back together.

“It’s only been two years, or less than two years [since we took a break]. It’s like two years in my life. I’m hoping to live a long life, so two years out of it is not a very long time neither is three or neither is four. We have to just wait until everyone’s ready to go again, we’ll go again. It’d be nice to think that we stopped at a high point, it’d be nice to pick up from there,” the 25-year-old said in 2017.

Harry agreed in another interview too, revealing he hopes it will all just happen organically.

“Maybe at some point everyone will want to do something again but it’s better if it happens naturally like, ‘Hey we all really want to do this again. If that were to happen it would be amazing. I would never rule that out,” the 24-year-old “Kiwi” singer said. “It’s the most important, greatest thing that ever happened to me, being in that band. It completely changed my life.” Brb, crying. Still so adorable he shared that.

So there we have it. One Direction will for sure reunite, in good time. Perhaps maybe we should all stop asking the guys since you know, they’ve made it crystal clear it’s going to be a reality and there isn’t any sort of new update as to when. If they want to divulge some details about the exact time and place though, then spill away boys. But as to when this magical day will come, that remains to be seen. We just know it’s happening. We promise. Or Harry, Niall, Liam, and Louis promise. And when have they ever lied to us before?

one direction soon
