On Friday, December 13, Tana Mongeau was named Creator Of The Year at the 2019 Streamy Awards, but it seems not everyone is happy with her win. In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel on Tuesday, December 17, PewDiePie — whose real name is Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg — slammed the 21-year-old social media star’s acceptance speech and said she shouldn’t have won the award.

“It’s so cringe to rip on Tana, like yeah she’s insufferable but I don’t want to make a whole deal out of it,” he told viewers while reacting to a clip of her emotional speech. “When Tana said ‘I don’t deserve this,’ we all felt that. She’s so humble, she doesn’t feel like creator of the year, she’s so down to earth, she’s just like us, no — you literally don’t deserve it, that’s why you feel like that.”

The 30-year-old also bashed the actual event and explained to fans that “awards shows are just fake anyway.”

“It’s all politics, it’s based on who was there, they want to show that they’re giving away awards to people instead of just having people show up in videos or not accepting the award at all,” he said. “So the people that play into the whole awards show thing are the people that get the award.”

It turned out that the YouTuber doesn’t actually hate award shows, he just wished that the trophies were given to people who really deserve them.

‘I think it could be cool to actually have it as a way to actually celebrate the people that did something amazing this year, just like [YouTube] Rewind could be something like that,” he explained. “A celebration of what people accomplished or made a mark or made an impact. I think that’s literally it, it doesn’t have to be more than that.”

As fans know, this came just after PewDiePie revealed that he’s taking a break from the streaming site in 2020. In his latest video, the social media star slammed claims that he’s quitting YouTube all together.

“That’s all I said: early next year I’ll be away for a little while,” he said. “I never said I’m quitting, I said I’m taking a break.”
