Our favorite sponge has officially been around for 20 years now, and Nickelodeon is celebrating in the best way ever! That’s right. SpongeBob SquarePants aired it’s first episode back in May 1999, and we cannot believe how fast time has flown by!
In honor of the epic anniversary, the network just released a photo containing every single character that has ever been in the hilarious cartoon. It turns out, there’s over 700 (760, to be exact), and the question we have for you is — can you name them all?
Of course we’ve got the main crew right in the center, consisting of SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krabs and Plankton. But if you look closely, you’ll also spot Mrs. Puff, Pearl, Karen (Plankton’s computer wife), Gary, Patchy the Pirate, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, Larry the Lobster, the Flying Dutchman and a ton more.
What about DoodleBob, Flats the flounder, Old Man Jenkins, Bubble Bass and of course, that guy who infamously always screams “MY LEG?” Can you find them all? Seriously, looking at the photo and remembering all the epic characters, moments and laughs from throughout the last 20 years is making us pretty emotional.
And this isn’t the only way Nickelodeon is celebrating the anniversary. ICYMI, the network announced back in May that they’re releasing a brand new special this year, called “SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout.” It’ll premiere on Nickelodeon on July 12 at 7 P.M. and get this, you guys — the OG cast is actually going to play human versions of their characters!
And that’s not all. Nickelodeon also revealed at the beginning of June that they’re making a brand new SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off series, called Kamp Koral. It’ll have 13 episodes in total and it’s going to follow SpongeBob when he’s a kid at sleep away camp. It’s definitely going to be a SpongeBob filled year — and we are not complaining!
