It looks like there are some mixed reviews about Ally Brooke‘s most recent performance. On Sunday, December 8, the former Fifth Harmony member hit the 2019 Miss Universe pageant stage and not only opened the ceremony with her own songs, but also honored late singer Selena Quintanilla — who tragically passed away in 1995 —with a heartfelt tribute.

However, some Selena fans seemed to have negative reactions to the 26-year-old’s cover of the legendary singer’s hit song “Dreaming Of You.” Following her performance, some of the songstress’ biggest fans took to social media and slammed Ally’s performance. They claimed her rendition wasn’t a good representation of Selena or her songs.

“That was not the best representation of #Selena or her music!” one fan wrote on Twitter with another adding, “Ally Brooke‘s tribute medley to Selena Quintanilla at the Miss Universe pageant sounded like a karaoke performance.”

Although some viewers had negative feedback, others praised her tribute. Following her performance, Selena’s older sister, Suzette Quintanilla, took to Instagram and wrote a sweet message to Ally and thanked her for singing her sister’s song.

“Never imagined I would ever ever ever hear this song sung at a MISS UNIVERSE pageant! (Not the best recording I did with my phone),” she captioned a video of the performance. “[Ally Brooke] thank you so much for this! Truly honored you chose this song and honored her.”

This isn’t the first time Ally has honored Selena’s memory. Back in September, the songstress revealed on Dancing With The Stars that the singer is one of her idols. Along with her partner, Sasha Farber, Ally performed a stunning dance tribute to the singer.

“I want to give them a shout out, all the Quintanillas,” she said after the dance. “Selena’s in my heart forever. I hope I made her proud.”
