R.I.P. Unicorn Frapp: Starbucks released their Zombie Frappuccino, and we can already hear the moans and groans of a million baristas forced to make the violet-and-green concoction. With the last Halloween drink dating back to two years ago (2015’s Frappula) this zombie concoction burst on the scene with little warning, but we should’ve expected it in a year swarmed with Limited Time Only drinks. Naturally, the looks of this one might give some people the wiggins, so if you’re not keen to join the mindless masses and swarm your local cafe, we’ll give you all the deets right now. Watch our video below to see editors’ initial reactions to the Zombie Frappucino.
Despite the brain-like appearance of the magenta whipped cream, and the faux blood drizzle, the zombie Frapp isn’t made from gore and guts (shocking, we know). Instead, it’s a creme based Frappucino that’s mixed with apple and caramel powder. Pause for side-eye here, because it’s always a little gross when we’re reminded “powder” gets involved in Starbucks’ drinks. Then there’s the aforementioned pinky-purple whipped cream, and a red mocha syrup.
So what does it taste like? Well—like any Starbucks novelty Frappucino—divisiveness. One editor later roasted the drink as “watered down caramel apple sad juice,” and it may or may not still be decaying on her desk. Others
were less harsh and found it a pleasant, if not a little bit try-hard Autumnal beverage. It’s very much the flavors of fall in an aggressively ~spooky~ package.
It makes sense, then, that the Zombie Frapp is only going to be available from October 26 to October 31. But if you’re too scared to try it yourself, we already did the legwork for you. Watch the video above to see our reactions to the gruesome(ly good?) Zombie Frapp!
