The princess of Genovia might be back for more, and we're just about freaking out over here. Author Meg Cabot, who is the genius behind the original book series, recently chatted about the possibility of a third film – and we are so here for it. Come on, The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement wasn't enough – we need more! However, we never thought in a million years we would live to see the day of a third film – you know, considering the fact that the sequel came out in 2004. But hey, it is totally still possible.
“I think we might do it in honor of him,” Andrews said in an interview. “Annie had an idea that she wanted to pursue about it, and I’m all for it, so if she’d like to.”
Now, Meg is further confirming that there's interest within the cast. She told EW that she hasn't heard anything, but that a script exists. So yeah, somewhere out there in the universe, a script for The Princess Diaries 3 is lying around. Sorry, WHAT?!
“I am not allowed to say,” Meg said. “I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can’t. I’m not allowed. But it’s really more following the movie than the books."
So there you have it – you most likely won't see a whole lot from the book series incorporated into the third film. Let's just hope the cast is ready for more. The movie honestly would not be the same without the whole OG The Princess Diaries crew: Julie Andrews would have to be present as Queen Clarisse Renaldi, and obviously it wouldn't even be able to happen without Anne Hathaway (AKA Mia Thermopolis).
We would also want to see all the others return, including Hector Elizondo (Joe), Heather Matarazzo (Lilly Moscovitz), Mandy Moore (Lana Thomas), Robert Schwartzman (Michael Moscovitz) and Erik von Detten (Josh Bryant). One could only hope they'll all be down! We'll just be here waiting until this all comes together. It would truly be a shame if it didn't. We need this more than Mia needed that epic makeover, tbh.
