The swoon-worthy show was originally a book series of the same name written by Jenny Han, who is also the author behind To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, a massively successful Netflix adaptation starring Noah Centineo and Lana Condor. Fans were especially excited that Jenny would be the showrunner and writer behind the adaptation for TSITP, as it was the first book series she ever wrote! And get this: Jenny confirmed that TSITP would be renewed for a season 2 before season 1 was even released!
“Oh my gosh, I have such butterflies about it because my readers have been waiting for so long,” Han, who also serves as showrunner/executive producer, told Entertainment Weekly in March 2022. “I just really want them to feel satisfied by the long wait and feel like the story has come to life in the way that they were hoping for. I hope fans swoon a lot. The first time I walked on set, I cried.”
Jenny also made the decision to add some new characters that weren’t in the books in order to “expand Belly’s world,” while also updating some the script to bring the series more “up to date.” Don’t worry though, all of the original characters are still in the show!
“I hope people fall in love with Belly and these families,” Jenny continued. “It really is about growing up and coming into your own and that loss of innocence. The first season is really just the beginning of it.” We’re so excited to see what’s in store for Belly, Conrad and Jeremiah in season 2!
