If you’re anything like us over here at J-14, than you’re probably obsessed with Tom Holland. The actor practically stole all of our hearts after he portrayed Spider-Man in five of Marvel’s films. Well guys, we have some sad news for you. Yeah, you might want to grab some tissues because according to reports, his character is being cut from the entire franchise. Yep, cue a million hearts breaking.

OK, let us explain. For those of you who don’t know, Sony has owned the rights to Spider-Man for, like, ever. But a few years ago, they struck up a deal with Disney (who owns Marvel), which allowed the network to use the character in their Avengers franchise. And boy, was it epic watching him fight along Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk! But Deadline reported on August 20 that the two companies got into a major disagreement over money and have decided to part ways.

But according to Sony, the decision had nothing to do with money. They claimed, rather, that it was because the president of Marvel, Kevin Feige, didn’t have enough time to work on the Spider-Man movies.

“We are disappointed, but respect Disney’s decision not to have [Kevin] continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film,” a Sony spokesperson said. “We hope this might change in the future, but understand that the many new responsibilities that Disney has given him — including all their newly added Marvel properties — do not allow time for him to work on IP they do not own. Kevin is terrific and we are grateful for his help and guidance and appreciate the path he has helped put us on, which we will continue.”

So what exactly does that mean for Tom? Will we see the swoon-worthy actor in his Spidey suit ever again? Well, it means that he most likely won’t appear in any more Marvel movies and that his character will no longer be a part of the Avengers, but thankfully, it doesn’t mean that he’s done playing Peter Parker for good. Phew! In fact, there are reportedly two more stand-alone Spider-Man movies already in the works with him as the lead, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
