YouTuber Meg DeAngeles chatted with us about what she knows best – life hacks and everything girly! The YouTuber, who aims to empower teens around the world, has more than 3.8 million subscribers! She’s also set to star in YouTube’s first full-length feature film Dance Camp. Meg put together a list of advice EXCLUSIVELY for J-14, and we’re so excited to share it with you!
“Hey guys, it’s Meg! We’re now more than halfway through winter, and by now I’m sure a few of you are reevaluating your New Year’s resolutions. Gym every morning at 6 a.m.? Maybe that was a little extreme. But it’s never too late to set new goals! Spring is right around the corner, and as the season of new beginnings, now is the perfect time to push the reset button on some areas in life that may be stuck in hibernation. Here are my tips for spring cleaning your life this season.”
“Remember to love yourself! It may sound selfish to put yourself first, but your well-being and happiness should always be a priority. Be conscious of the fact that you are already whole as an individual, and you don’t need to find anyone to complete you.”
“Find your platform for self expression. I’ve always loved performing, and being able to act and sing has been an amazing outlet for me artistically. I encourage everyone to find their craft, whether it’s dance, painting, photography, or DIY. Finding your art form will give you the tools to think creatively in other areas of life.”
“Harness the power of your voice! Don’t hold back when opportunities arise to share your opinions. Join in on conversations! You’ll learn from those around you and open yourself up to opportunities that would otherwise pass you by.”
“Ask more questions! Questions spark conversations. Having a curiosity for life will lead you to talk to more people and discover the world around you. Remember, interested is always interesting.”
“Let go of the negative influences in your life. Instead, surround yourself with people that lift you up, accept your faults, and see your potential. These are the people that will stick with you as you follow your dreams.”
“Own your look – or try something fresh. Cultivate a style that is all you! No matter what the current trends may be, dress in the pieces that accentuate your best features and make you feel confident. While exploring your look, don’t be afraid to try a new hairstyle! My character in Dance Camp had these super cute colorful highlights which were totally different from my everyday look, but I had a lot of fun trying something new.”
“Get strong! Don’t be intimidated by the thought of trying a new workout this year. It gets easier as you build your strength! The choreography I learned for Dance Camp was super challenging at first, but after a lot of practice I felt like I could conquer anything! Having confidence that your body can take on a new physical challenge is key to accomplishing it!”
“Don’t sweat the small stuff. Sometimes it feels like the sky is literally falling, but it’s important to keep things in perspective and know that you’re going to be okay. Emotions may overtake you in the moment, but know that it’ll eventually pass.”
“Be the change you want to see in the world. Advocate for equality, animal rights, the environment, or anything you truly care about. Start in your community, and spread your message. You can make a difference in the smallest way or largest way you want, you just have to follow your passion.”
“Live out your dreams IRL. Acting, performing, and being a YouTube creator isn’t a traditional career path, but it’s everything I wanted to do and I set my mind to it. If you have a dream that you feel like you’ve put on hold, now is the time to work toward it! Dream jobs don’t happen overnight, but anything is attainable with time, patience, research, and practice!”
