Five teen girls have been named to the 2012 Summer Olympics U.S. women's gymnastics team -- historically one of the best teams in the world! Here are the top five things you should know about Jordyn Wieber,17, before the Olympics start this Friday, July 27.
Jordyn Wieber was born on July 12, 1995, and started gymnastics classes when she was only four years old. "My parents thought I looked like a gymnast and I could balance on one foot for a long time, so they put me in a recreational class."
She had already qualified to level 10, the highest level in the Junior Olympic program, by the time she was 10 years old.
Jordyn has been in three American Cup competitions and taken the gold medal home every time. "It feels amazing to win my third American Cup," she says. "I'm really excited to get started with the Olympic year."
This self-proclaimed "perfectionist" goes to school full-time and trains 30 hours a week. "I want to go to the gym, I want to practice hard every single day," Jordyn says. "It's just always been a part of my personality."
Her hometown of Dewitt, MI has adopted it's own slogan of "Wieber Fever," but Jordyn seems to have a case of "Bieber fever" herself! "I'm not sure what it's going to take to meet Justin Bieber," she says. "We'll just have to see if fate brings us together. An Olympic all-around title would definitely help," she adds.
Be sure to keep an eye out for Jordyn Wieber-- the gymnastics events start July 28 on NBC!
