Fans of the Freeform series Famous In Love were naturally sad to find out the series had not been renewed for a third season. The show starred Bella Thorne in the leading role of Paige Townsen, a college student who gets cast into the movie adaptation of a bestselling book series, resulting in her life totally changing overnight, and was filled with plenty of drama. But now, the 21-year-old actress is setting the record straight on exactly why the series only lasted two seasons.

While there were rumors that Bella and showrunner Marlene King — yes, the mastermind who gave the world Pretty Little Liars — didn’t get along, the starlet opened up to the Los Angeles Times insiting that wasn’t the case. She claims there were bigger issues going on with the network itself.

Bella explained that Freeform thought of her as “uncontrollable and crazy,” and tried to make it seem like she was a diva on the show’s set “because they were scared I was going to go running my mouth if I was upset.”

“It’s coming out of my mouth and I know you’re going to print it. But it was — there were some things — there were some comments made that — I don’t know. I’m trying to find a way around it. One issue is when you have a girl, a young girl who is on your show, you can’t tell her that she’s ugly or she’s fat or she’s this or she’s that because that’s going to make her feel bad,” she said. When she was asked who called her ugly, she replied that it was Freeform.

“The network. In e-mails, and there was another thing that was in front of everyone on set. After, the cast was texting me, ‘Oh, my God, Bella. I am so sorry. That was so awkward. I feel so bad. Do you want me to come over to your room?’ ‘Oh, my God, I can’t believe they did that.’ It was all supposed to change on Season 2, and it didn’t,” she said.

Yikes, that is just okay and clearly made for an uncomfortable work environment for Bella. While Freeform declined to comment on the issues Bella spoke about, she made it clear it wasn’t the happiest show to be working on. And as fans of the series know, Season 2 ended on such a cliffhanger and now it seems like there’s zero chance that will ever get resolved. Total bummer all around.
