Ansel Elgort just landed a super cool new gig! The 24-year-old actor and singer is set to be the male lead in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming remake of the West Side Story. Seeing as it’s a movie-musical, we’re going to be able to see Ansel break out the triple-threat he’s got inside him. Yep, you bet he’ll be singing, acting, and dancing in the film. Ansel fans are in for a treat.

The Divergent and The Fault in Our Stars star will play the role of Tony in the fan-favorite drama. The story follows two gangs – the Sharks and the Jets – in the ’50s, battling for New York City turf. Things get very Romeo and Juliet when Tony (a Jet) falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Sharks’ leader. Can you say drama?

The actor has some big shoes to fill, seeing as Tony is an iconic character! The role of Tony was first played by Larry Kert in the original 1957 Broadway musical. Then, in the 1961 movie, Richard Beymer portrayed the leading guy.

That’s not all Ansel’s got going on. He is also starring in The Goldfinch, which is a book-to-movie adaptation of the Donna Tartt novel of the same name. It’s set to be released on Oct. 11, 2019. Aside from acting, he’s always dipping his toes in music too. In 2018, he came out with a fire single, “Supernova,” which is a total jam.

The star sure does have a lot of exciting projects in the works! According to reports, West Side Story is set to start production in summer of 2019. We can’t wait!
