Although Ariana Grande was pretty heartbroken that her late ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, didn’t win a Grammy on Sunday, February 10, she wants the world to know that she was definitely not shading Cardi B. Mac’s album, Swimming, was nominated for best rap album at the 2019 Grammy Awards, but when he lost to the “Bodak Yellow” rapper, Ariana took to Twitter to share her disappointment.

“Trash,” she tweeted, right after Cardi B was announced as the winner. “Literal bulls–t.”

Ariana deleted the messages within seconds, but eagle-eyed fans quickly snapped some screenshots.

When some people thought she was shading Cardi with her tweets, she quickly clarified that her heartbreak had nothing to do with the 26-year-old rapper.

“Nothing to do with her,” she replied to a fan in a now-deleted tweet. “Good for her. I promise. I’m sorry.”

But after another fan called the rapper “trash,” Ariana even defended her.

“She’s not at all and that’s not what I meant and you know that,” she wrote.

So why was the “God Is a Woman” singer so upset? Well, fans know that Ariana and Mac dated for two years before calling it quits back in May of 2018. But after he passed away from an overdose in September of 2018, the singer has been pretty open about how much she misses him.

Ariana explained that the reason she was so unhappy with the results was actually because Mac’s family were invited to the ceremony, only to watch him lose.

“Y’all invited Mac’s parents out and you didn’t give him an award are y’all dumb?” one fan wrote.

“This. This is what I meant. Karen [Meyers] was gonna have a green suit made,” Ariana replied, referring to her late ex-boyfriend’s mom.

She also noted how hard Mac had worked on the album.

“He slept in the studio for two months,” she continued.

“THEY INVITED HIS PARENTS OUT. NO,” she added in another deleted tweet.

The 25-year-old singer took home a Grammy of her own — Best Pop Vocal Album for her LP Sweetener — but she didn’t attend the award show. She revealed on Twitter last week that she was supposed to perform at the glamorous event, but after getting into a disagreement with the producer, Ken Ehrlich, over which songs she was going to sing, she decided to pull out.

“It was when my creativity and self expression was stifled by you, that i decided not to attend,” she wrote.

But that didn’t stop the former Victorious actress from putting on a dress! The singer revealed via Instagram that designer Zac Posen had already made a gown for her before she decided she wasn’t going to attend the award show. So Ari decided to get dressed up anyway, and boy, did she look gorgeous.

Although we’re bummed we didn’t get to see Ari on stage at the event, we did get to see Shawn Mendes and Miley Cyrus perform a duet, so the night was still pretty epic.
