Love is in the air for Calum Worthy and Joey King – on-screen, of course. The Austin & Ally actor and The Kissing Booth actress are playing love interests in the upcoming Hulu true-crime anthology series, The Act.
According to Deadline, the show tells true crime stories – and the first season is actually based off of writer Michelle Dean’s 2016 Buzzfeed article, which focused on a dark mother-daughter incident. Joey will be portraying the role of Gypsy Blanchard, who attempts to escape the toxic relationship she has with her mother. The 27-year-old Disney Channel alum will be playing Nick – the boy Gypsy meets on a Christian dating website. He seems like a sweet boy, but things between them turn dark.
Both Calum and Joey have Disney Channel roots. Aside from playing Dez in Austin & Ally, Calum also appeared in Good Luck Charlie, Zeke and Luther, Jessie, I Didn’t Do It, and Bizaardvark. So yeah, he’s a Disney staple – that’s for sure. As for Joey, the 19-year-old star actually had her very first role on Disney Channel. Yep, that’s right. She played Emily in two episodes of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody back in 2006. And while Ramona and Beezus wasn’t a DCOM original, she did star alongside Disney icon Selena Gomez in the movie, so it counts!
As for the stars’ real-life love interests, they’re both taken! Joey is head over heels in love with her The Kissing Booth co-star, Jacob Elordi. She and the 21-year-old actor have the sweetest love story, and fans can’t get enough of their posts together on social media.
Calum is in a relationship with 24-year-old actress Celesta Deastis. She’s starred in shows like The Goldbergs, General Hospital, and more. The two have been dating for years, and they’re super cute together. She too has a Disney past, as she once starred in an episode of A.N.T. Farm.
The Act just began production in Georgia, and there is no word yet on when it’ll be released.
