Recently, fans were seriously confused after photos of Lady Gaga handing her leather jacket to a fan hit the web. But as it turned out, the real reason that the songstress gave Shannon McKee the item of clothing is pretty heartwarming.
While talking with TODAY, the 27-year-old California native recounted the entire story and said that the A Star Is Born actress gifted her the jacket after Shannon shared her best friend and brother’s coming out stories
“I walked in and I was like, ‘Hey, that’s a really bad a** jacket you got on,” the fan remembered. “And she said, ‘Thank you.’ I kind of recognized the voice, but I’m not one to really go up to celebrities.”
Once she got back outside, she decided that she really wanted to tell Lady Gaga the coming out stories.
@ladygaga you’re an incredible inspiration of a kind hearted human being and I felt so blessed to be giving this jacket off your back and have never been so blessed or thankful then I was last night.
You truly are a remarkable woman♥️ pic.twitter.com/pgAz6gQXRK— Shannon Bryant McKee (@smckee3393) June 17, 2020
“I did have a story that I wanted to share with her, and I felt this need that she needed to hear it from me,” she explained. “And so when I went back, I was like, ‘Hey, you’re Lady Gaga, right?'”
She then continued, “My best friend back in high school was a huge fan of yours. And you’re the reason he actually came out to me. And his first five tattoos are all dedicated to you and my brother just recently came out to me, too. So I just wanted to say thank you for being such an incredible ally.”
Shannon said that the “Born This Way” singer was touched, and instead of taking a photo, she handed her the jacket.
“As I was telling her the story about my friend, she took off her jacket and was like, ‘You loved my jacket so much. Here. It’s yours. Put it on right now. You be bad a** with it now,'” the fan said.
“I couldn’t have been more thankful to have met someone as sweet and caring and compassionate and just an overall beautiful person as her,” Shannon also told TODAY. “I wanted to cry because it was so heartfelt in that moment. I have been a fan of hers since I was in high school. Timing is everything. I truly believe in this moment of time… It needed to happen.”
