She’s showing off her true talent! By now, fans of Lili Reinhart know that her brand new movie Chemical Hearts just premiered, and if you’ve already checked out the heart-wrenching flick, then you know it’s a big departure from her ponytail wearing Riverdale character, Betty Cooper.

When talking to EW during a recent interview, the actress revealed how her character in this this movie — based on Krystal Sutherland‘s Young Adult novel, Our Chemical Hearts — allowed her to “act without limitation” and differed from her breakout role in the fan-favorite CW show.

“That was really important to me, having silence [in scenes] and not being so pressed for time and trying to truncate things and edit the crap out of scenes to make them shorter for time,” she explained. “There was no pressure or rush, and which gave me an opportunity to just feel and act.”

Lili continued, “People haven’t really seen what I’m fully capable of. Maybe they only see me as being on a commercial television show, and I hope that this shows people that my heart is really in film. I want people to see me as something other than Betty Cooper. It’s hard to break out of that mold.”

For those who missed it, Chemical Hearts followed Lili’s character, Grace Town, who is “a mysterious new girl in school who wears baggy clothes and walks with a limp. She joins the school newspaper staff, at which point her colleague Henry Page can’t stop thinking about her. As he grows closer to her, he’ll learn more about first love, heartbreak, and loss than he ever imagined.

When talking about how she decided to place Grace, Lili explained to Access that she “never wants to play the same character twice.”

“I would love to have the opportunity to play any and all characters,” the 23-year-old said. “There’s so many beautiful stories of women to tell and I’m here for all of it. I don’t want to limit myself. I would love to continue playing these women who have beautiful backstories.”

Sounds like there’s a lot of new roles coming from this blonde beauty in the future!
