After months of speculation surrounding their breakup, Cole Sprouse has broken his silence and opened up about splitting from Lili Reinhart.
“Lili and I initially separated in January of this year, deciding to more permanently split in March. What an incredible experience I had, I’ll always feel lucky and cherish that I had the chance to fall in love,” the Riverdale star wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, August 19. “I wish her nothing but the utmost love and happiness moving forward. All I’ll say about it, anything else you hear doesn’t matter.”
As fans know, the pair were together for three years before calling it quits. The duo first met and fell for each other on set of Riverdale, and fans were seriously living for their adorable relationship. Their characters are pretty much goals in the CW series, so when they took their romance off screen and revealed that they were dating IRL, everyone quickly became obsessed with them.
In May 2020, Cole and Lili’s costar Skeet Ulrich dropped a major hint during an Instagram Live that the two stars had broken up. When a fan asked the actor if he though they made a cute couple, he replied, “I think they were a very cute couple.”
Before he concluded his message to fans, Cole urged his followers to check out Lili’s upcoming film Chemical Hearts — which premieres on Friday, August 21.
The 27-year-old added, “Also her movie comes out soon! I’m sure she’s just as incredible in it as everything else she does. Thanks guys.”
For those who missed it, Cole’s Instagram post came just one day after Lili set the record straight and claimed her words from a recent interview were taken “out of context” and she “would never speak so candidly about something as personal as a breakup.”
