After what seemed like months of waiting, it’s finally here! On Thursday, February 6, Netflix released the first official trailer for their upcoming teen romance film All The Bright Places. Based off the international bestselling young adult novel of the same name by Jennifer Niven, the movie stars Elle Fanning alongside Justice Smith, Alexandra Shipp, Keegan-Michael Key, Luke Wilson and Felix Mallard.

From the look of it, this coming-of-age flick is going to be a total tear-jerker. So, mark those calendars and set those reminders because All The Bright Places premieres on the streaming service on February 28, 2020.

According to Netflix, the film “tells the story of Violet Markey (played by Elle) and Theodore Finch (played by Justice), who meet and change each other’s lives forever. As they struggle with the emotional and physical scars of their past, they come together, discovering that even the smallest places and moments can mean something. This compelling drama provides a refreshing and human take on the experience of mental illness, its impact on relationships, as well as the beauty and lasting impact of young love.”

During an interview with Marie Claire, Elle revealed she looked back on her own teenage years to channel the mindset of her character, Violet.

“At that age, I was experiencing first love and, like, relationships and just how impactful it is on your life. That never goes away for people. That first love is so intense and sets up so many things in your life,” she explained. “Everything’s so dramatic at that age, so intensified, when you’re young and still developing in a school setting, which is literally the harshest place in the world.”

The 21-year-old also opened up about why it was so important that the characters’ mental health issues were a focal point of the film.

“Depression and mental illness in young people is so real, and it’s something people don’t want to talk about and want to shy away from. It has to be out there for people to see it, to get help, to not keep it hidden,” she said.
