Before becoming a successful solo artist, Normani was totally afraid of the spotlight. On Tuesday, November 26, the singer was named the December/January Cosmopolitan cover girl and when it came to opening up for the interview, the 23-year-old didn’t hold back.

The “Motivation” singer dished on everything from her time in Fifth Harmony to when she decided to release solo music. She even looked back on her childhood and revealed that she always knew she’d be part of a girl group.

“I remember always being asked, ‘Why do you wanna be in a girl group? So you can hide?’” she admitted when looking back on her shy personality. “And that’s exactly what I was trying to do. I’m not sure what that turning point was, but I was like, Normani is enough. You can be onstage and perform and you can be enough.”

After the superstar realized she had the passion and dreams to sing her own songs, she started working harder than everyone in Hollywood.

“I know how to work really hard, harder than everybody else. If they’re putting in five hours, I’m putting in eight,” she said. “There are a lot of moments where I feel like I have no room to make mistakes. I could fall down a million times, but that is not enough for me, ever. I’m gonna get back up.”

As fans know, the songstress signed a solo deal with S10 Management back in October 2017 and since then has been releasing songs with major artists — like Sam Smith, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj — all while working on her debut album. Her music has even gained support from some of the biggest names in the music industry, like Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

“The specifics of it I like to keep to myself because it’s just so special,” she admitted. “But Bey and Jay-Z have definitely been vocal about how much they want me to win.”
