As fans know, it’s been four years since Perrie Edwards and Zayn Malik called off their engagement, and from the sound of it, the two musicians still aren’t on good terms. Although she didn’t explicitly name her ex, during a recent interview, Little Mix fans are convinced the blonde beauty shaded the former One Direction member by calling “Shout Out To My Ex” the “most special” song she’s ever written.

“I feel like [the song] just came at a really good time,” she explained to Capital FM host Roman Kemp. “Yeah, I love that song and I never get tired of singing it either.”

As fans know, the hit girl power anthem dropped back in 2016, a little over a year after the couple went their separate ways. Upon it’s release, listeners were shook over the not-so-subtle lines directed at Zayn. For those who missed it, fans first speculated that the two started dating after they both appeared on The X Factor together. After a year, Zayn and Perrie went public with their relationship when photos of them kissing surfaced in May 2012. The pair got engaged in August 2013, before they hit the red carpet together at One Direction’s This Is Us film premiere.

Their relationship started to get rocky when they found themselves involved in a cheating scandal in 2013, and then again in 2015 after a photo of Zayn and a mystery girl surfaced on Twitter. In August 2015, a source confirmed to Us Weekly that Zayn had called off their engagement. In 2016, Zayn claimed the two went their separate ways because he “fell out of love” with the songstress.

Although Perrie has fallen head over heels in love with professional footballer, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, it seems she’s still totally obsessed with the track that, as Roman said during the interview, “pushed you girls outside of the stratosphere.” And honestly, we don’t blame her for loving that song, because it’s still a total bop!
