After months of waiting, the first look at Robert Pattinson as Batman is finally here! Yep, on Saturday, August 22, the debut trailer for The Batman was officially unveiled, and the internet has a lot of thoughts about the Twilight star taking on the role of the iconic Caped Crusader.

For those who missed it, the two-minute trailer gave fans a look at what looks to be a seriously dark version of the superhero — who has previously been played by Ben Affleck, Christian Bale and more. Aside from Robert as Bruce Wayne himself, fans also got a sneak peek at Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as The Penguin and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon. According to the film’s director, Matt Reeves, this sure-to-be action-packed flick will follow Bruce in the “early days of him being Batman.”

Naturally, after the trailer hit the web, fans had a lot to say about the upcoming film. Most Twitter posts seemed to praise Robert’s portrayal of the comic book character.

“I, for one, think Robert Pattinson has the perfect chaotic energy for playing a sad, lonely billionaire who spends his time and money on an expensive bat costume to wear while beating people up rather than going to therapy,” one person said. Another added, “I think Robert Pattinson wearing eyeliner is a good enough reason alone to watch the new Batman.”

One clip in the trailer showed Bruce Wayne remove his Batman mask and continue to have black makeup smudged around his eyes — something that, according to avid Batman fans, has been neglected in some of the previous films.

“As many of you probably already know, we were in the beginning stages of production when COVID hit, so now I’m very anxious to get back to work and continue to form this beloved character. I’ve always been a massive fan,” Robert told fans during the DC Fandome Batman panel before the trailer premiered.
