As excited as most Swifties are for Taylor Swift‘s upcoming Lover Fest East + West Tour, some fans were left a little disappointed when the singer announced that she was only going to a few cities in America. Now, the “Look What You Made Me Do” crooner has opened up about why the tour is so short, and it may have something to do with her mom Andrea’s tragic illness.

Andrea was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer back in 2015, and fan’s hearts were broken when the 29-year-old revealed in April 2019 that she’s currently experiencing a relapse.

“Change happens not only in my career, but in my life. And I’ve got some pretty intense things happening with my family right now,” the blonde beauty admitted during a recent interview with Beats 1 radio host Zane Lowe. “I can’t go on long tours and not have the ability to go home if I need to. I have priorities that aren’t just touring now, and [the fans] have been really respectful of that in the past.”

The Cats: The Musical actress will kick off the tour on June 20, 2019, in Werchter, Belgium.

“This is where the rubber meets the road and I actually have to make decisions,” Taylor continued. “Where there are question marks in my life and things that are really important to me and my family, I have to be able to have some breathing room in my touring schedule and I think they kind of understand that.”

As J-14 readers know, Taylor’s only shared 12 tour dates so far — only four of which are in America. She’ll be performing at the Sofi Stadium in Los Angeles, CA on July 25, 2020, and July 26, 2020, and Gillette Stadium in Boston, MA on July 31, 2020, and August 1, 2020. The rest of the dates stretch across Europe.

“I’ve had to learn how to handle serious illness in my family. Both of my parents have had cancer, and my mom is now fighting her battle with it again,” the Grammy Award winning artist revealed back in April. “It’s taught me that there are real problems and then there’s everything else. My mom’s cancer is a real problem. I used to be so anxious about daily ups and downs. I give all of my worry, stress, and prayers to real problems now.”

As bummed as fans are that she’s not coming to a bunch of cities this time around, hopefully now that they have some more insight they’ll understand!
