Going back to the ’80s! The Carrie Diaries was a Sex and the City prequel series, which premiered on The CW in January 2013.

Based on the book series of the same name by Candice Bushnell, the Carrie Diaries starred AnnaSophia Robb as a young version of the iconic character Carrie Bradshaw. Throughout the series’ two seasons, fans watched as the Connecticut teen balances school while starting a career in New York City.

“It feels surreal, and I don’t think I’ve quite processed it yet,” the actress told ELLE in February 2013 of the role. “Carrie lives a dual life in the show, and I definitely felt that way in high school, balancing work and life as a student.”

AnnaSophia starred alongside Austin Butler (Sebastian Kydd), Ellen Wong (Jill “Mouse” Chen), Katie Findlay (Maggie Landers), Stefania LaVie Owen (Dorrit Bradshaw), Brendan Dooling (Walt Reynolds), Chloe Bridges (Donna LaDonna) and Matt Letscher (Tom Bradshaw), who completed the young Carrie’s circle of friends and family.

“Carrie is always trying to make the right decision and be a good friend. It’s also important to realize that characters make mistakes and aren’t perfect people,” AnnaSophia told ELLE in a separate interview from October 2013. “Even though you want them to be super likable and justify their actions, a lot of times they do make wrong choices. It’s embracing those story shifts and being willing to have Carrie be a real teenage girl where she has desires maybe she shouldn’t have or makes the wrong decision. It’s easy to play someone who everyone likes, but that’s not necessarily someone everyone can always relate to.”

After the first season, the Carrie Diaries returned for a season 2, which ended up being the show’s last. In May 2014, the network announced the show’s cancelation.

“Hey #carriers just want to thank you for all your love and support these past two seasons,” AnnaSophia shared via Twitter at the time. “These past two years have been the most joy filled and transformative. It’s been an honor working on the show and with the best cast in the world. #TheCarrieDiaries crew is my family and I’m so grateful for this experience. Keep shining #carriers, dream big and don’t forget to wear fabulous shoes!”
