The internet was pretty shook after New Zealand pop star Kelsy Karter got Harry Styles‘ face tattooed on her cheek. That’s right, you didn’t read that wrong. The singer actually got his Rolling Stone Magazine cover permanently inked onto her face! Um, wow, talk about dedication. The tat quickly sparked a lot of debate since some fans were sure it was fake. Well guys, Kelsy not only just confirmed that it’s indeed real, but she finally revealed the true reason behind the dramatic ink
Speaking to The Edge Afternoon Show on Tuesday, January 29, she explained, “I’m a big fan of Harry and I’m not afraid to express it and I honestly don’t know how to do anything half-arsed.”
But what does she love about the “Kiwi” crooner? “As a fellow musician, I really respect what he’s doing for rock ‘n’ roll,” she explained. “I’m a female in the modern day movement of rock ‘n’ roll and he’s exposed the kids to sounds they might have not otherwise heard. Because he came from the pop world and did a rock ‘n’ roll album, it’s opened doors for people like me. I really respect what he’s doing and love what he’s doing — and he’s nice to look at.”
OK, we couldn’t agree more, but personally, we wouldn’t get him permanently inked onto our faces. To each their own though! The 25-year-old also told the show that the tat “didn’t hurt as much as you’d think.”
“I just wear my heart on my cheek and I couldn’t really control what went on from there,” she added.
Kelsy recently released a song inspired by the 24-year-old, called “Harry,” and she also told the outlet that the ink was “completely unrelated” to the tune’s launch — despite some fans thinking that it might have been a publicity stunt in an attempt to get attention for the song.
“Harry, I’m gonna make you love me,” Kelsy sings in the tune. “Staring at you in magazines everyday / Feeling like I’m 17, never been touched this way / I’m thinking ’bout you / I’ll treat you better than the girls you’re hanging out with / Take you to heaven and I’ll show you all around it / I’ll never let you down.”
With over 45 thousand followers, Kelsy has built a loyal fan base for her edgy pop songs, and she’s even wrote an unreleased tune with Harry’s former One Direction bandmate, Zayn Malik. Kelsy has been pretty open about her love for the “Sign Of The Times” singer in the past, and she even declared herself a “female version” of him.
“What I love about him from a professional standpoint is that he was the poppiest of pop stars, and then he went off on his own and made a classic rock album,” she told i-D Magazine last year. “For someone like me who wants to live in that world who hasn’t been in a boy band, he has opened the door for me. He’s introduced the kids to the kind of music I want to make. For that, I’m really grateful. I also just want his career. I feel like I’m a female version. I actually moved to America to act, and music became my main thing. Rock ‘n’ roll is my passion. I really want to work with him. Let’s work, Harry. Where you at? Mark my words: I’m getting a song on his album.”
Well, we hope Kelsy doesn’t regret this tattoo in a few years since there’s no going back now!
