There’s no denying that Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart have tried their best to keep their offscreen romance as private as possible, but since they play onscreen love interests in Riverdale, fans have become even more invested in their IRL relationship. Of course, it’s been hard to juggle their relationship with the pressure they get from fans, but according the the former Disney Channel star, it’s been totally worth it since the two were like magnets since the very beginning.
When asked if he ever thought about how dating his costar would only attract even more unwanted attention, he told the Los Angeles Times, “We legitimately could not stay away from one another.”
That’s right, you guys. Turns out, the two had no choice but to date since their attraction to each other was just so strong, but still, they’re very careful with how much of their love lives they share with the world.
“I’ve girded my private life very intentionally,” the 26-year-old said. “It’s one of those things that I still sort of grapple with, and Lili and I grapple with.”
Well, he’s certainly right about that! Lili has spoken very candidly in the past about wanting to keep their romance between the two of them, mostly because they want to maintain some level of privacy and they don’t feel like they owe people anything.
“I keep my relationship private because it’s just between two people, and that’s the way it should be,” the 22-year-old told Teen Vogue in October 2018. “It’s not like I’m trying to dangle my relationship in front of people’s faces like, ‘you don’t know anything about us.’ It’s just, you don’t need to know. People feel like they’re owed that, and you’re absolutely not owed anything by me.”
That same month, she told WhoWhatWear that she feels like she can’t share details of her relationship with Cole with the public because once she does, they’re only going to want to know more.
“I think it’s just that I’m so protective over it. It’s not something the world needs to know about, because if you give them anything, they are just going to want more,” she said. “I’m not going to hide away from my relationship or hide away from what’s going on in my life, but what does happen in my relationship is so private, and I cherish it a lot. He does as well. A relationship is a very intimate thing, and I want it to be between me and him, not me, him, and the world.”
TBH, it makes total sense to us, and although we all want the inside scoop on their adorable relationship, we totally understand why they want it to stay between them. We mean, would you want people criticizing and sharing their personal opinions about your personal relationship? We didn’t think so!
