But IRL, Camila Mendes is actually dating her co-star Charles Melton, who plays Reggie on the show. We’ve always wondered how Charles felt watching his girlfriend kiss another man during Riverdale each week and now, we have our answer. Luckily for us, KJ Apa made sure to document the 27-year-old’s reaction to a Varchie kiss scene when the actors were watching Wednesday night’s new episode together. We knew we could count on you, KJ!
When a hot-and-heavy make out session between Archie and Veronica hit the screen, Charles was definitely not amused.
The scene showed a shirtless Archie holding Veronica up against a locker and kissing her. Woah, talk about intense. And Charles was clearly uncomfortable, as he turned to face the camera with giant, adorable puppy eyes. Aw, poor Charles!
KJ and Camila’s on screen smooches are so intense that they even got nominated for the “Best Kiss” award at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards.
“It’s a funny category because you’re like, I don’t really know what I did, I didn’t do anything! I just kissed somebody,” the actress told W Magazine after the nomination.
KJ and Camila’s on-camera love may be super cute, but Charles doesn’t need to worry, because off-camera, Camila is definitely all his. The two went Instagram official last month and since then have been constantly gushing over each other.
And when a fan questioned just how happy the actress was with Charles, the 24-year-old was quick to stick up for her man, explaining that she was “happier than I’ve ever been in my life.”
The fan shared a side-by-side image of Camila with her ex, Victor Houston, and an image of Camila with Charles, claiming she looked much happier with her ex.
“Charles and I were on our way to shoot a self tape, which he helped me with all day. Literally stopped everything he was doing to help me tape the perfect audition. I was running the lines in my head without even knowing there was a pap taking photos of us. Victor and I were at Comic Con, walking toward a huge line of fans, knowing there were cameras pointed at us. See the difference?” Camila explained. “I hope you’re young because that seems to be the only justification for this kind of immaturity.”
