Ever since Ed Sheeran announced that he had welcomed his first baby — a daughter named Lyra Antarctica — with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, fans have been left wondering — was she named after anyone or anything in particular? Well guys, we just broke down the meaning behind the newborn’s name, and it’s seriously so cute!

According to reports, Lyra is actually the name of one of the main characters in a book called His Dark Materials by Phillip Pullman. But what does that have to do with the “Thinking Out Loud” crooner, you ask? Well, he actually previously called it one of “the best books” he has “ever read” on Twitter back in 2015.

The word Lyra is also Latin for “harp,” which could symbolize Ed’s love for music. Plus, it’s also the name of a constellation!

As for her middle name, after some investigation, some fans were quick to point out that around nine months ago, the singer was actually photographed in Antartica. People have speculated that Cherry might have been with him and that’s where the baby could have been conceived!

Obviously, until they confirm anything the meaning behind her name is all just speculation for now. For those who missed it, the 29-year-old shared the exciting news that they had officially become parents via Instagram on Tuesday, September 1.

“Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter — Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran,” he captioned a shot that showed a tiny pair of socks. “We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed.”
