Congratulations are in order for Ed Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, because they’re officially parents! Yep, the singer just announced that they have welcomed their first chid together — a little girl named Lyra Antarctica — and we couldn’t be more excited for them.
The “Thinking Out Loud” crooner shared the exciting news on Instagram on Tuesday, September 1.
“Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you… Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter — Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran,” he captioned a shot that showed a tiny pair of socks. “We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time. Lots of love and I’ll see you when it’s time to come back, Ed.”
As fans know, The Sun first reported that the couple was expecting a baby on August 12, 2020.
“Ed and Cherry are over the moon. They’re very excited, but have kept things very low key,” a source told the outlet at the time. “Lockdown was a perfect excuse not to be seen out and about too much, but things are getting closer and the excitement has been building so they have started telling friends and family. They’re just making the last of the preparations at home, and the baby is expected later this summer. It’s a really happy time and their families are all totally delighted for them and cannot wait to meet the new arrival.”
The last time the pair was spotted in public was back in March at the Cambridge Hockey Club. In photos obtained by Daily Mail, the 29-year-old and the pro-hockey player looked as happy as could be as they watched the sports game together and cheered on the teams. Cherry covered her stomach with an oversized jacket.
For those who don’t know, the musician has actually known his beau since he was 11 years old! They went to school together when they were young, but it wasn’t until 2015 that they started dating, after they reconnected through a mutual friend.
Then, Ed announced that he and Cherry were engaged in January 2018, writing on Instagram, “Got myself a fiancé just before [the] New Year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well.”
They reportedly tied the knot in December of the same year. According to The Sun, the couple had a small wedding attended only by close family and friends. A source told them at the time, “He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them — just a tiny winter wedding.”
