In case you were wondering why Halsey was a no-show at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, let it be known that it wasn’t a scheduling conflict. Even if the star was able to attend, she didn’t go because she was, well, boycotting. Yep, that’s right. Fans were surprised to see that Halsey wasn’t there this year, so the star took to Twitter to explain why she wasn’t in attendance. Turns out, she feels it was unfair that she wasn’t nominated for any of the categories this year. Last year, the star was nominated for three awards, but this time around, she feels like she was shut out. “Closer,” her song with The Chainsmokers, was nominated for Collaboration and Editing, while “Now or Never” was nominated for Cinematography.

The star replied to a fan’s question in a tweet, “bc I directed all my own music videos this album just to have @MTV “#wcw” me to death and not nominate me for anything so it didn’t feel right to go. I’m happy you guys liked the videos. That’s all that matters to me.”

Even though Halsey wasn’t at the star-studded event, she was in New York City – which is where the show took place. In fact, she was spotted packing on the PDA with her ex-boyfriend G-Eazy at an after-party. They announced they were “taking some time apart” in July, but looks like things are heating up again!

“I normally keep this kind of thing private but provided our public nature I feel the need to inform my fans. G-Eazy and I are taking some time apart,” she said in an Instagram Story on July 3, 2018. “I’m eager to continue the upcoming passage of time dedicating myself to my art and my career, and the duration of my tour. I wish him the best. Thanks for respecting our privacy at this time.”

G-Eazy was in attendance at the awards show and he also presented. So even though Halsey didn’t attend herself, they still made time to hang. Could love be in the air again for the fan-fave pair? Looks like all signs are pointing to yes! And that’s more important than any award.
