“Golden”

Opening the album on an upbeat note, Harry seems to describes a relationship that he hopes will never end. He sings about not being able to get someone out of his head and not wanting to be without the love of his mystery girl.

“You’re so golden / I don’t want to be alone / You’re so golden / You’re so golden / I’m out of my head, and I know that you’re scared / Because hearts get broken.”

Many fans seem to believe that this song is about the singer’s ex-girlfriend Camille. They think that he’s recounting the beginning of the pair’s relationship that started back in September 2017.

“Watermelon Sugar”

After some investigation, it seems that this song is totally about Camille. When Harry first performed the song on Saturday Night Live in November 2019, fans were quick to search what the phrase meant and found that it was directly connected to his ex.

When talking to Elle  back in February 2017, the 33-year-old model revealed that her favorite book is called Watermelon Sugar by author Richard Brautigan.

“Adore You”

The last single before his album dropped, this track has quickly become a total fan-favorite. Although it doesn’t seem to be about a specific person, the track does have a dual message.

At first listen, the song seems to be about love and devotion towards one person. After watching the music video, in which Harry seemingly falls in love with his pet fish, it’s apparent that the track can be about loving anything and anyone.

“I’d walk through fire for you/ Just let me adore you / Like it’s the only thing I’ll ever do / Like it’s the only thing I’ll ever do.”

According to Rolling Stone, the song also seems to be a nod towards the late singer and songwriter Harry Nilsson‘s film The Point! which follows a similar concept to the “Adore You” visual.

“Lights Up”

This track totally shook the world when it was first released. Based on the lyrics, it appears that the song is about the feeling of euphoria Harry gets while partying, and the bittersweet feeling of returning to real life after the lights go up.

“All the lights couldn’t put out the dark / Runnin’ through my heart / Lights up and they know who you are / Know who you are / Do you know who you are?” the lyrics read. “Shine, step into the light / Shine, so bright sometimes / Shine, I’m not ever going back.”

“Cherry”

It turns out, “Cherry” is most definitely about Camille. During an interview with with Zane Lowe on his “New Music Daily” podcast, the singer revealed that this track includes a voicemail from his ex at the end of the song.

“That was my ex-girlfriend. It got added in later on, and it felt so part of the song. It just felt like it needed it. We’re friends and stuff, so I asked her if it was okay. And she was okay with it. I think she liked it.”

That’s not all! With the song’s lyric, “Does he take you walking ’round his parents’ gallery?” he makes a direct reference to Theodorakis Niarchos, an art gallerist that the model started dating after her and Harry’s split.

“Falling”

This track also seems to be about Harry’s ex as it references a coffeeshop that the two used to visit together.

“You said you care, and you missed me too / And I’m well aware I write too many songs about you / And the coffee’s out at the Beachwood Cafe / And it kills me ’cause I know we’ve ran out of things we can say.”

During a September 2018 interview called Falling For LA, the model broke down her ideal day in Los Angeles and names the Beachwood Cafe as her favorite breakfast spot. It has been speculated that the song’s title also refers directly to Harry falling for Camille while being in Los Angeles, which ties back to her interview.

“To Be So Lonely”

Quite possibly the saddest song on the album, this track seems to represent the feelings of sadness and loneliness that come after suffering a breakup.

“You can’t blame me, darling / Not even a little bit, I was away / I’m just an arrogant son of a b***h / Who can’t admit when he’s sorry / Don’t call me ‘baby’ again, you’ve got your reasons / I know that you’re trying to be friends, I know you mean it / Don’t call me ‘baby’ again, it’s hard for me to go home / Be so lonely.”

The singer told Rolling Stone back in August that as a whole, this album was all about “having sex and feeling sad” and this song sounds like it’s written straight from Harry’s heart after a sad time.

“She”

It’s not entirely clear who the track “She” is about, but it sure is a whimsical song. Harry sings about a particular woman that he keeps daydreaming about and imagines running away with her.

“She (She), she lives in daydreams with me (She)/ She’s the first one that I see, and I don’t know why / I don’t know who she is (She, she) / He takes a boat out, imagines just sailing away (Away, away) / And not telling his mates (Not telling his mates) / Wouldn’t know what to say (Wouldn’t know what to say, to say).”

“Sunflower, Vol. 6”

Another breakup song, “Sunflower” is seemingly about Harry’s final stage of getting over his past relationship. Fans have said that the actual live cycles of a sunflower represents the happy memories the singer had with Camille, how they died and how he’s looking forward to “planting new seeds” or making new memories with someone new.

“Canyon Moon”

“Canyon Moon” seems to not be about any person in particular, but actually a place. The bittersweet track is about looking back on happy memories and wanting to go back home. According to Entertainment Weekly, the lyrics are connected directly to LA’s Laurel Canyon and how Harry yearns to return there when he’s away on tour.

“Staring at the ceiling, two weeks and I’ll be home/ Carry the feeling, through Paris, all through Rome / And I’m still thinking back to the time under the canyon moon,” he sings about his former home.

“Treat People With Kindness”

Fans of the singer know that this song is named after Harry’s personal slogan, which he’s been saying since his first solo tour. The song itself seems like a direct message to fans telling them that it’s ok to give people second chances and reminding them to be kind to everyone.

“Maybe, we can / Find a place to feel good / And we can treat people with kindness / Find a place to feel good,” he sings.

This track closes with the singer shouting, “All together now!” which seems like a way to get listeners involved and sing the “treat people with kindness” chant that’s repeated throughout the song.

“Fine Line”

The album concludes with the title track, “Fine Line” that ties together all its proceeding songs. The track seemingly represents the high highs and low lows that Harry had while creating the album and the fine line between the two feelings.

When talking to Zane Lowe, the singer said, “One thing I hadn’t experienced before was how I felt during the making of this record. The times when I felt good and happy were the happiest I’ve ever felt in my life, and the times when I felt sad were the lower I’ve ever felt in my life.”
