Fans have been pretty worried about Harry Styles ever since news hit the web that he was robbed at knifepoint on February 14, 2020. Now, the One Direction member has opened up about the scary incident.
“I was walking home from a friends house, I was about five minutes from home. I’m walking up and I kind of see this group of guys and they all got their hoods up, and their face is covered and stuff. And I think, ‘Oh thats a bit weird,'” he recalled. “I hear shuffling of feet and they catch up to me. So I cross the street and they cross the street. And I’m like, ‘Oh f**ks sake.’ Then I cross the street again and they cross the street again and I think I’m about to get robbed. So the guys are like, ‘Hey can I talk to you for a minute?’ And there is no one around. So I’m like, ‘Sure.’ … Then [one of the guys] goes, ‘What have you got on you?’ And they all kind of gathered around me.”
For those who missed it, reports first hit the web on February 18, 2020, that the 26-year-old had been confronted by a man who threatened him with a knife during a night out with friends. Sources told The Mirror at the time that the “Sign of the Times” crooner acted “quickly” and handed his money over to the robber, who thankfully left him unharmed.
“He actually played it pretty cool, quickly giving the assailant cash, keeping himself and the guy calm and getting the situation over with,” an insider told the outlet. “Understandably though it left him very shaken up afterwards.”
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that they did received reports of a robbery, but did not confirm whether or not the singer was the victim.
“Officers were contacted on Saturday, February 15, regarding the incident which happened at 11:50 A.M. on Friday, February 14,” the spokesperson said. “It was reported that a man in his 20s was approached by another man and threatened him with a knife. The victim was not injured however, cash was taken from him. No arrests and enquiries are ongoing.”
“This was a something I’ve been pissed off about,” Harry continued. “They wrote it was only one guy, but I’d like to clarify it was more than one guy. So they ask me, ‘What do you have on you?’ and I said, ‘I don’t have anything.’ And they say, ‘Stop f**king around.’ I have some cash in my pocket, and he takes it. And then I had my headphone jack just sticking into my pocket, and he goes, ‘What’s that plugged into?’ And I go, ‘For f**ks sake it’s my phone.'”
The musician explained that he did not want to hand over his phone to the robbers because he was scared that they’d leak his private information from it.
“The guy is like, ‘OK, unlock your phone.’ And the other one pulls up his shirt and he’s got like a knife sticking in his pants,” Harry added. “I just said, ‘Mate I can’t unlock my phone.’ And then the guy is like, ‘You’ve got ten second to unlock your phone,’ and he starts counting down. And I’m like, ‘F**k am I going to unlock my phone?’ I try to give him my phone, and he’s like, ‘No I’m going to need you to unlock it.’ And I’m like, ‘I can’t.’ I thought, ‘There’s a pond behind me where I live,’ and I thought about throwing it in the pond to just be like, ‘Neither of us have it.’ But then I thought, ‘I didn’t want to piss him off.'”
But when the 26-year-old saw some cars coming, he saw it as an opportunity to get away safely.
“I just sprinted and ran. I ran into the road and I tried to stop a car,” he said. “Obviously a mad men in the middle of the road try to get in your car, they’re not going to let me in. So they don’t let me in. I tried to get in another car, they don’t let me in. But now I’m slightly away from them because I’m in the street. And I just turned and ran towards the village where I live. I just kind of sprinted … I guess because they had some cash and stuff they ended up just turning around.”
Wow, how scary is that?! Everyone is seriously so relieved that he’s OK!
“It was on Valentines day, that’s what you get for being single these days,” Harry concluded with a laugh.
