This may be hard to believe, but it’s been almost 19 years since the iconic film The Princess Diaires first premiered. Now, actress Heather Matarazzo has opened up about her character, Lilly Moscovitz, and admitted, even though she meant well, she definitely needed “an attitude adjustment” in the film.

On Thursday, April 9, an Instagram meme account posted a photo of the 37-year-old star’s iconic, outspoken character, alongside a caption that read, “Remember when Lilly was b***hing out Mia for her hair and all [you] wanted to do was punch her in the face,” referring to a specific scene from the movie.

Naturally, Heather immediately took to the comments section and stood up for Lilly’s actions.

“Listen, she knew she needed an attitude adjustment and she was willing to call herself out as a teen, which is more than most adults I know. But yes, some of her thoughts and words were just,” she wrote alongside a series of emojis.

For those who forgot, the fan-favorite film first hit theaters back in 2001, and was all about a nerdy high school student named Mia Thermopolis, who was in for a major shock when she discovered that she was secretly a princess. Besides Heather, it also starred Anne HathawayJulie AndrewsMandy Moore, Robert Schwartzman, Erik von Detten, Patrick John Flueger and more!

Back in January 2019, fans of the original movie were shook when Anne confirmed, during an episode of Watch What Happens Live, that a possible The Princess Diaries 3 could be in the works.

“There is a script for the third movie. There is a script,” the actress admitted at the time. “I want to do it. Julie [Andrews] wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it. We all really want it to happen.”

Here’s to hoping that, over a year later, there’s still a plan for this flick!
