Jake Paul is in the midst of a major controversy yet again. The YouTuber has just been dropped by his legal team after he reportedly “refused to cooperate” and “refused make payments to the firm.” This is definitely not good for the scandalous star because get this — Jake is actually in the midst of a major lawsuit right now.
The 21-year-old (who’s constantly doing risky and illegal things for his videos) is being sued over a prank he did back in 2017. Jake decided to honk his car horn at strangers for a YouTube video, which turned out to be quite problematic. A California man by the name of Ellis Barbacoff claimed that the surprise from the loud noise caused hearing injuries and emotional distress.
“Let’s scare some people,” Jake said in the video, which has more than 10 million views since it was posted in July of 2017. In the clip, he could be seen honking his loud horn at random pedestrians, causing them all to jump or run out of the street, which Jake found pretty amusing.
Now, it appears that Jake is on his own for the lawsuit because The Blast reported that his law firm — Loeb & Loeb — filed a motion to stop working with him. And it was reportedly granted on Jan. 3, 2019. In the motion, the lawyers claimed that the YouTube star had “refused to cooperate with Loeb in the defense of this action,” adding that he also “refused to make payments to the firm for their legal services in connection with the case.” They even told the judge that they tried to contact Jake and he didn’t respond.
J-14 readers know that this isn’t the first legal trouble Jake has been in. The star got arrested in 2017 after flying a drone over a monument in Italy. Plus, fans were not happy with him after he and his brother Logan video taped themselves jumping into the canals in Italy, which is also totally illegal. Not to mention that at the beginning of the month, the star was under fire again after participating in the dangerous #BirdBoxChallenge. Although Netflix advised against it, Jake decided to drive a car and walk through moving traffic while blindfolded which is totally dangerous.
Hopefully this will be a lesson to the YouTuber, although we’re starting to feel like he’s never going to learn.
