On Sunday, November 17, Lili Reinhart took to Instagram and got real about her thoughts on photoshopping apps. The Riverdale star did not hold back when it came to sharing her true feelings about social media as a whole and its effect on society.

It all started when the actress took to her Instagram Stories and shared with fans and followers that she was looking for an app to resize her photos. While looking through the app store, she stumbled across an app called BodyTune — a photo editing app that allows users to alter their body shape and size.

“This morning I was looking for an app that would help me resize my photos to better fit Instagram” she wrote. “And then I came across this app.”

Not only did she share a screenshot of the app, but the 23-year-old posted a screen recorded video of an ad which demonstrated how to make arms and waists appear smaller when using the app.

“This is not okay,” she wrote on her Instagram Stories following the video. “This is why people develop eating disorders. This is why social media has become hazardous to our health. This is why people have unrealistic expectations of their bodies.”

Lili then sent a message to her followers pleading with them to not use apps such as this because of how it can create unrealistic standards of the human body.

“I implore you: do not use these kinds of apps,” she said. “If you photoshop your body, you are adding to this problem. This is how unrealistic standards of human bodies have been created — to the point where people alter their bodies surgically to achieve unattainable results.”

She didn’t stop there. Lili then told her followers that as a society, we should be better than just wanting to look “skinnier” on Instagram.

“Our bodies should not conform to ‘one size fits all,'” she wrote in her following Instagram Stories. “My heart goes out to those people who feel like their bodies aren’t good enough. But please don’t encourage this behavior.”

After she begged fans not to use types of apps, Lili concluded her message with a positive note.

“Once you alleviate yourself from the pressure to conform to FAKE/UNREAL standards…the world is a lot brighter,” she said. “I promise you.”
