Make way for Prince Ali because the street rat that everyone knows and loves is returning to the big screen once again! That’s right, there’s officially a live-action sequel to Aladdin in the works at Disney, and fans could not be more excited.
According to Variety, the producers behind the first flick — Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich — have already signed on for the second. It’s still unknown whether director Guy Ritchie will return for the sequel, but producers are reportedly hoping to bring back Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott!
As fans know, the original cartoon had three movies in total — Aladdin, Aladdin: The Return of Jafar and Aladdin: The King of Thieves. Previously, when Syfy Wire asked the producer if they were planning on remaking the rest of the films, he revealed that the second movie was already in “early stages.”
“We’d love to. People clearly loved the movie and watched it multiple times and we get lots of fan letters and people asking us to make Return [of] Jafar,” Dan explained. “I can just tell you that we’re in early stages right now, but we’re certainly talking about another movie. Like with Aladdin, it will not be a straight remake of any movie that’s been made before, so we’re looking at, ‘Where’s the best way to go with these characters.’”

For those who missed it, the first live-action remake hit screens on May 24, 2019, and it made over $1 billion at the box office. It was pretty epic seeing the animated classic come to life, and they seriously did an amazing job.
“The audience response has really touched us in thinking about where we can go with these stories,” he added. “And we feel like these characters have more adventures in store.”
That’s not all. Back in December 2019, The Hollywood Reporter reported that a brand new spinoff series about Prince Anders is coming to Disney+! For those who forgot, Prince Anders was a prince from a fictional kingdom called Skanland who visited Agrabah in the hopes of courting Princess Jasmine. Although he only had two scenes in the movie, he was pretty hilarious and made a big impression on viewers, so it’s safe to say that this new show is going to be epic!

Billy Magnussen starred as the handsome prince in the movie, and the outlet reported that not only will he reprise his role for the upcoming series, but it was actually his idea! Yep, Aladdin fans certainly have a lot to look forward to!
