She’s finally here! Yep, after weeks of teasing her new music, Miley Cyrus finally released her brand new single, “Midnight Sky.” On Friday, August 14, not only did the former Disney Channel star drop the track on all streaming platforms, but she also debuted a self-directed music video, too. And it’s safe to say fans everywhere are ready for the 27-year-old’s new era!
As fans know, “Midnight Sky” is the first song the Hannah Montana alum has released since 2019, and it’s giving listeners some serious disco vibes. But what exactly is the song about? Well, from the sound of it, the upbeat single is all about empowerment and independence.
“I was born to run, I don’t belong to anyone, oh no / I don’t need to be loved by you (By you),” the lyrics read. “Fire in my lungs, can’t bite the devil on my tongue, oh no / I don’t need to be loved by you.”
This song is the first look into Miley’s upcoming album, She Is Miley Cyrus, which doesn’t have a release date just yet.
For those who missed, the free spirited song about not needing or belonging to anyone came just before the songstress confirmed that she had split from her boyfriend, Cody Simpson, after 10 months together
“Today, it came out that me and my boyfriend had broken up. It was ‘confirmed by a reliable source,’ although no one is reliable in a relationship, except the two individuals participating in it. But for right now, two halves cannot make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we want to be,” she explained during an Instagram Live. “Like everyone else at this age, we’re deciding who we want to be and what we want to do with our lives. So don’t make it some drama story if next week we’re spotted hanging out or getting pizza. We’ve been friends for 10 years and will continue to be friends. Don’t make it something that it is not.”
