Shawn Mendes just made our hearts skip a beat. The singer-songwriter proved himself to be quite a giver with a truly meaningful act of kindness. Shawn heard about the death of a young boy from the same town he was raised in, so the star decided to pay for a majority of the funeral costs.

Deijomi Makela-Stewart, passed away on the Aug. 16, 2018 in Pickering, Ontario – where Shawn grew up. A fundraising page for the funeral costs was set up with a $10,000 goal, and Shawn donated $5,000 – half of the goal total. The money raised has now surpassed $10,000 – which is truly incredible.

“On August 16 2018 we lost our beloved son Deijomi. Please support our efforts in providing Deijomi the service he deserves and we thank you for your support during this challenging time,” the donation page reads. “We thank you again for your support and for loving Deijomi as we do.”

Fans took to Twitter to share their appreciation and let people know about Shawn’s pure act of kindess, as he made this donation without being asked and without publicly sharing the fact that he did this. Between being friends with basically everyone and his desire to help others, it is safe to say Shawn is one of the real ones.

The singer is currently gearing up to perform at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards tonight. In fact, his “In My Blood” music video is actually nominated in three categories at the show – Pop Video, Cinematoraphy, and Direction. But even with all he has going on in his career, he still finds time to help others. We are so glad to see Shawn paying it forward.
