We were all pretty shook when Katy Perry made an appearance in Taylor Swift‘s new “You Need to Calm Down” music video. We mean, the ladies have been embroiled in a feud for almost six years, so seeing them together was pretty shocking. Now, the “Look What You Made Me Do” songstress is finally spilling all the tea on how the two went from enemies to besties, and it’s seriously the sweetest thing ever.
“She and I definitely have been on very good terms lately, but I don’t think anybody knew it. We just kind of reconnected privately and just wanted to make sure that everything was really good with us and that it was like a very real thing before we let anyone know,” she told U.K. radio show Heart Breakfast With Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on Wednesday, June 19. “We’re not only good but we’re friends again. So it was really wonderful to get to sort of unveil it to the world in like a cheeky sort of fun way.”
As for how they were finally able to put the drama behind them, the 29-year-old explained that they first started to reconnect after the “I Kissed a Girl” singer sent Taylor a sweet gift.
“We reconnected a while ago. It started when she sent an olive branch, like an actual olive branch, to my tour,” she continued. “And I was like, ‘That is not only really cool and really sincere (the note), but like, very clever with sending an actual olive branch.’ It was a beautiful like, wreath, and you could like hang it. It was really — it was so great. And so that was when, you know I think for both of us, there were no weird feelings, everything was on good terms.”
“And then we ran into each other at a party a while ago and it was literally like in the video, seeing each other, but without the food costumes,” Taylor added. “It was just fully sincere and like we realized we’ve grown up, we’ve grown enough to realize the fact that us feeling pitted against each other for so long really did add to whatever tension we were feeling in our friendship. It’s a really positive thing for both of us in our lives.”
The blonde beauty also opened up about it to Capital Breakfast.
“We’ve been on good terms for a while. She sent me a really nice note and an olive branch, like an actual olive branch, to my tour when it started. From that point on we’ve been on good terms,” she told them. “Then we saw each other at a party and walked up to each other and hugged it out and talked about things. And then we saw each other again and hung out at another party and it was just like something felt so much lighter about my life when things became really good between us. She and I have been fine for a while and really on good terms but we didn’t know if we were ever gonna really tell people about it. We wanted to make sure that was solid between us before we ever made the public aware.”
Wow, we are seriously living for this friendship.
