When does ‘You’ season 2 premiere?

Netflix revealed via Instagram on November 11, 2019 that the spooky series’ second season will premiere on December 26, 2019!

“Ready to meet your match? You season 2 is coming December 26th,” they wrote.

Is the trailer for ‘You’ season 2 out yet?

On Monday, December 16, Netflix dropped the first trailer for the series’ second season. This time a girl named Love catches Joe’s attention, but it seems moving to a new city won’t keep his past in the past. Joe quickly finds out that his ex-girlfriend Candace is very much alive and made it her mission to ensure that he won’t have a fresh start in Los Angeles.

For those who missed it, a previously released teaser video revealed that Joe has moved to LA and now goes by a different name. Before giving viewers a chilling smile, he looked directly into the camera and revealed that he now goes by Will.

“You know, love has taken me to some pretty dark places,” he said in the trailer. “But Los Angeles has got to be as dark as it gets.”

Who will be returning for season 2?

It has been confirmed that Penn will be returning to the second season will reprise his role as Joe, the bookstore manager and murderer. His ex-girlfriend, Candace — played by Ambyr Childers — was bumped up from recurring character to season regular for this upcoming season, so fans will get used to seeing her on their screen.

As viewers know, there’s no reason to fall in love with any character on You. After the show’s killer first season, it’s obvious that no character is guaranteed to survive. Unfortunately, fan-favorites Elizabeth Lail and Shay Mitchell won’t be returning in any new episodes as both of their character’s met an untimely death at the hands of Joe last season.

Will there be any new characters in season 2?

Besides Penn and Ambyr, Victoria Pendetti, Jenna Ortega, James Scully, Robin Lord Taylor and Charlie Barnett will also star in the second season.

Victoria is set to play the role of Love Quinn. “An aspiring chef who doesn’t care about social media. She’s also tending to a deep grief — so when she meets Joe she senses a shared knowledge of profound loss,” Netflix wrote on their See What’s Next Twitter account. Showrunner Sera Gamble opened up to Entertainment Weekly about Love’s character and revealed that she’s nothing like Beck from season one.

“Like her name, she’s very warm and there is a carefree aspect to her spirit that really comes from the fact that she has constructed a life for herself that’s about being in the moment and doing what she loves every day. In that way, she’s very very different than the woman that you got to know in season one, Beck, who was ambitious and driven as a writer and also as a young person in a social circle that had a certain kind of status. Beck had been quite aware of her social media presence, and Love is extremely disinterested in all of that.”

According to Deadline, James will be taking on the role of Love’s brother, Forty Quinn, a “confident, opinionated and privileged” boy who is in a 12-step program and relies on his sister a lot. “It never takes much of a shove for him to fall back off the wagon.”

When it comes to Jenna’s character, Ellie, she’s had to mature quickly as a result of being alone a lot. “She must take care of herself and isn’t afraid to get into murky waters to make a little cash. This includes working cons on the adults around her, including Joe Goldberg.”

What will ‘You’ season 2 be about?

According to Netflix, “the new season of You follows Joe Goldberg as he moves to Los Angeles and becomes enamored with aspiring chef Love Quinn.”

There’s not much information on what else is to come, but if season one is any indication, no one will be able to predict what Joe does next. Sera also dished on the upcoming second season and said that it won’t be a repeat of the first.

“Season 1 was a particular kind of story that we could tell about the relationship between Joe and Beck and the moment that we did what we did in the finale, that’s not repeatable,” she said.

Penn recently talked to ET about what fans can expect from his character in the second season.

“There’s a revisitation of that with Joe in the second episode of the second season, where you get to see a bit more of the hard reality of what he did to her,” Badgley teased. “Whereas you’re sort of, for better or worse, mercifully saved from seeing that in the first season. That always haunts me, thinking of Beck. It’s like, ‘You really did that in the first season, and we’re still going, and people really like this guy?!’ That’s disturbing. In his mind, she’s not even dead.”
