Break out the chocolate, because Valentine’s Day is here! While some celebs are all about sharing their romantic acts of love via social media, others can’t help but publicly hate the holiday.
Selena Gomez, for one, gave her fans an alternate way to celebrate the holiday of love in 2020 — and it included ice cream.
“Valentine’s Day can be a day where people feel sad for not being in a relationship. You should never let a day make you feel less than,” Selena said in a statement at the time, while promoting her collaboration with Serendipity Brands. “Whether you are in a relationship or single, do something you love that day — of course with a mask and socially distanced. For me, the perfect night is watching a movie and, obviously, downing some ice cream.”
Over the years, the actress has been in a few public relationships, but when it comes to her dating life, Selena likes to keep things under wraps. While speaking with Vogue Australia in June 2021, the Disney Channel alum shared that “most of my experiences in relationships have been cursed.”
She added: “I’ve been way too young to be exposed to certain things when I was in relationships. I guess I needed to find what was [rare] for me, because I felt so less than in past relationships, and never really felt equal.”
The cast of the Paramount+ movie The In Between — which starred Joey King, Kyle Allen and Celeste O’Connor — also shared relationship stories from their past Valentine’s Days with J-14 exclusively.
“Well, it wasn’t a disaster. I just had a relationship blossom on Valentine’s Day,” the Kissing Booth alum shared in February 2022. “Then, one day this guy told me he loved me, and then, that evening he broke up with me. It was so cute. That was a good one.”
Amid her story, Kyle revealed that “all of my Valentine’s Days have been fantastic for my entire life.” Joey hit back, joking, “You don’t have to brag.”
Joey and Kyle’s costar Celeste didn’t reveal any past V-Day disasters of their own, but recalled a few “not romantic” stories from friends. They added, “I don’t think I’ve had any disasters. Thank God.”
