It’s safe to say that Charli D’Amelio is taking the internet by storm recently. At only 15 years old, the TikTok star has racked up more than 40 million subscribers on the video streaming app and 11 million followers on Instagram. Now, the influencer has opened up about how she has dealt with all the attention that she gained in such a short amount of time, and she admitted that it wasn’t as easy as it looked.

“At the beginning, when this all started, I was very, very overwhelmed. I was still going to school full time, I was traveling a lot and I felt like I always had something to do and had no free time,” she admitted while speaking to James Charles in a recent video. “I was struggling because there were so many things I had to do and I didn’t have a really well put together schedule back then. I felt like everyone was yelling at me to get stuff done and I was like, ‘I don’t know how to do it all!’ … I was getting so, so, so tired. Even my videos were not good. I wasn’t having fun.”

The 15-year-old explained that after she took some time to herself and switched to online schooling, things got a lot easier. She also got real about the positive and negative aspects of fame.

“I’m getting to experience things that I wouldn’t have been able to do if I didn’t have this opportunity,” she said of the best parts about her job. As for the worst parts, the social media star revealed that the way some people have treated her has definitely been hard for her.

“Some people will try to talk bad about me, try to make me look like a person that I’m not in a bad way. It’s just weird seeing how people switch up,” she continued. “Or people will say, ‘You cut me off. You stopped talking to me,’ and I’m like, ‘We haven’t been friends for four years.’ Or they’ll make us seem a lot closer than we are in real life. That’s weird. For the most part, I know who I can trust.”

Charli even reminisced about the moment she realized she had made it. And it turns out, it was when Jennifer Lopez said she knew who the dancer was!

“I always thought it would be cool to be [famous]. But I started TikTok by making funny videos with my friends. It was really never meant to be something where I was like, ‘I’m going to do this to get famous,’ she concluded. “It was such an accident.”
