Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have been BFF’s ever since they were little kids. They first met when they both starred in Barney at 7 years old together, and since then they’ve stayed super close! But fans became worried about their friendship after Demi unfollowed the “Bad Liar” singer on Instagram last week. Uh oh, we’re low-key freaking out too, since unfollowing someone on social media is a pretty big statement these days.
As J-14 readers know, Selena actually unfollowed Demi first, when she unfollowed hundreds of people back in January. It obviously wasn’t personal though and it seemed more like a fresh start, since the 26-year-old pretty much unfollowed everyone except her business partners.
Some fans believe that Demi’s reason for unfollowing Selena may be more personal. In a recent interview with Elle Magazine, Selena opened up about Demi’s dangerous drug overdose.
“All I’m saying is, I reached out personally. I didn’t do a public thing. I didn’t want to. I…I love her. I’ve known her since I was seven. So…it’s…that’s what I’ll say,” the singer told the magazine back in September.
But when Selena’s comments about her friend quickly made headlines, she spoke out against Elle in an Instagram post where she explained that Demi wasn’t the “purpose” of the interview at all.
“Speaking from my heart for over an hour to someone who puts those thoughts into paid words can be hard for me. The older I get the more I want my voice to be mine. This is all apart of my work within an industry that’s been around longer than all of us have been,” she wrote. “I understand that reporters are working to grab the attention of a reader, however, I will always work to ensure that what is public represents my truth. I’m a bit bummed but rarely surprised. Y’all know me and my heart.”
After Demi’s scary overdose three months ago, she decided to check herself into a rehab facility in Utah to focus on improving her mental health. But she was recently spotted back in LA and looking better than ever! Since her return to Hollywood though, she’s definitely been cutting people out of her life that did her wrong.
The 26-year-old fired her former trainer Danielle Martin for talking to media outlets about her personal issues and even lashed out at her on Instagram last week.
“It was completely unfair to fire Dani, she’s one of the few who really cares about Demi’s health and has been helping her for three years, she’s surrounded by people who only care about her money and she does not see it,” a fan wrote on Instagram.
Demi left a comment on the Instagram post, writing: “You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
She then added, “True friends don’t do interviews about you when you OD.”
No one knows what’s going on with Demi and Selena behind the scenes, and it may actually mean nothing that she unfollowed the star. But we hope that if they are fighting, they can patch things up soon!
