It’s the saga that truly seems to be never ending, but we might finally have the true answer to the age-old question: did Alissa Violet date Jake Paul? Was Jalissa real or just a showmance for the vloggers’ YouTube channels? Alissa spilled all the tea to Shane Dawson and according to her, she was never Jake’s girlfriend. PLOT TWIST.
In the Part One finale of Shane’s docseries, The Mind of Jake Paul, he sat down with the 22-year-old former Team 10 member to get her side of the story. As anyone who has followed the Jake and Alissa drama knows, she was an OG member of Jake’s social media squad and they often appeared in videos together. It seemed like they were a couple but as Alissa revealed to Shane during their sit-down chat, the 21-year-old web star was never formally in a relationship with Alissa, and it caused her a great deal of distress.
“We never officially dated, ever. Which there are so many things out there like Jake Paul’s ex-girlfriend and I’m always the ex. It was just hooking up and I’ve chased him for so long and I wanted him to be my boyfriend,” Alissa said to Shane. “I was just so confused and confronted him every day like, ‘what are we? This hurts so bad’ and he was always just brushing it off. We never really established what we were. We were together, but we weren’t.”
Alissa went on to explain that she signed a contract with both Jake and his older brother Logan‘s companies, so she had to appear in their videos and work with them. She claims that once Jake saw how well his videos did with her in them, that’s when the idea to really hype up the concept of “Jalissa” came to be, but she was often left confused over the status of their relationship. They were friends, but they were something more, although never officially “boyfriend” and “girlfriend.”
“I tried for so long to change him, to make him a better person. He just never wanted to change. I tried for so long,” she said. “That’s why I’m so annoyed in all his videos because I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. I don’t know if we’re together and I try to talk to him about it and he brushes it off and two minutes later, he’s like ‘hey I need you for a video.’ I never knew what we were, ever.”
She did go on to clarify a few things about the nature of their relationship since when she left Team 10 and posted videos exposing Jake and the truth behind their time together, it was implied that he was abusive to her. He later revealed he was in love with Alissa, but tbh, this does not sound like a love-filled relationship, at all. Alissa said that during prank videos Jake would sometimes be too rough physically with her, he did one time drag her down the stairs when they were in a fight, which is not okay at all.
“It was never physical abuse. There was something like if we filmed a video and he had to push me into a bush, he would actually shove me. It was stuff like that where he would just do it way too hard. And one time we got into a fight he broke my phone and I took his phone and he dragged me down the stairs. That’s true,” she said. “He’s not a physical abuser, but mentally and emotionally, 100 percent.”
Any type of abuse in a relationship, whether it’s with a friend, boyfriend or girlfriend, or a family member, should never be tolerated. She explained that she wanted to leave the Team 10 house many times, but she didn’t have the means to and still had to work for Jake. She also got candid about the time when Jake “exposed” her on social media and he made it clear the reason he kicked her out of Team 10 is because she cheated on him and hooked up with Logan. While Alissa did speak about her fling with Logan that she wishes never happened, she said she couldn’t have cheated on Jake because they weren’t a couple and he was always hooking up with other girls right in front of her.
“Jake lied and said that I cheated, but we were never together,” she explained. “I was so pissed off, I was so fed up, I was so hurt, I was so disgusted, I was at my breaking point. I hit up Logan and was like, ‘let’s hang out.’ Then me and Logan hooked up and I’m still disgusted by it. It’s not who I am and it’s not who I ever wanted to be. I just feel like I was a pawn in their game, they’re always trying to one up each other. I was just used the whole time, in Team 10, in videos.”
Ultimately, Alissa is happy to be free of this back and forth and is focused on the next chapter of her life. She’s back to vlogging and is living in the Clout Gang house, which if you watched Shane’s doc, you know is a jaw-dropping mansion. She’s focused on building her business and she’s still happily dating Faze Banks, ready to leave all the Paul brothers’ drama behind her.
“I’m done, I will never talk about this again. I was so worried about people calling me all these names, but I know I’m not. Why should I care what other people think?” Alissa said. “My brain back then, I was just a different person. I’ve been trying to move on for so long. There was always a cloud over my head and I never felt like I was strong enough to come out and tell my story, but I feel better.”
