When was ‘To All the Boys 3’ announced?

Netflix sent the internet into a frenzy back in August 2019 when they announced that the third movie was in the works! While sharing the release date for the second flick, they confirmed that the third was also happening.

“You guys have been so supportive and loving and patient. So let’s just say, our movie is coming soon! What, you want more? To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You premieres … February 12!” the cast shared in an Instagram video. “Wait, we almost forgot something … The third film To All the Boys: Always and Forever is in production!”

Have the stars filmed ‘To All the Boys 3’?

Yes, not only have they started filming the third movie, but they’ve actually already finished it! In August 2019, Noah Centineo and Lana announced that production had wrapped, and said goodbye to their characters once and for all.

“Tonight was my last night as Peter Kavinsky,” Noah wrote on Twitter at the time. “I hope you all love these last installments as much as we do. Forever grateful for the opportunity to be yours. Thank you Lana. Thank you Michael. Thank you Matt. Thank you Netflix. Grateful to every person who told this story with us.”

Lana retweeted it, adding, “You’ll always be my Peter K. And I’ll always be your Lara Jean, that I can promise you.”

For her part, the star shared an emotional tribute to Lara Jean on Instagram.

“It’s been 16 days since the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise wrapped shooting movies two and three. I’ve been really struggling how to put into words my feelings towards this ending,” the actress wrote. “Words will never be able to describe my love for Lara Jean, her family, her friends, Peter. Words will never be able to describe the long nights on set, where it would suddenly hit me, like a ton of bricks, that I was getting the honor of portraying a girl so fiercely determined in love, who represents strength in softness. Words will never be able to describe my gratitude to YOU, for loving her as much as I do. For tying your hair up in a scrunchie and saying, ‘Let’s do this.’ Thank you from the very bottom of my heart, you’ve made me feel like the luckiest girl alive. Always and forever, your Lara Jean.”

 

Will the entire cast return for ‘To All the Boys 3’?

Noah and Lana have already confirmed that they’re going to be in the third flick. Plus, Anna Cathcart, Janel Parrish and Ross Butler were all also spotted on set by fans. But unfortunately, it’s still unclear if the rest of the stars will return for the next movie. We’re especially curious about Jordan Fisher and his character, John Ambrose, but we guess we’ll have to wait and see!

“Possibly, I mean, we’ll have to see,” Jordan told Entertainment Tonight in February 2020. “Filming for the third film has already taken place and I, Jordan Fisher, cannot confirm nor John Ambrose’s involvement in the third film.”

What will ‘To All the Boys 3’ be about?

Since the movies are based off a three-part book series by Jenny Han, we already have some info about what’s going to go down. This is a synopsis for the third book: “Lara Jean is having the best senior year a girl could ever hope for. She is head over heels in love with her boyfriend, Peter; her dad’s finally getting remarried to their next door neighbor, Ms. Rothschild; and Margot’s coming home for the summer just in time for the wedding. But change is looming on the horizon.”

As for the movie, Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “As Lara Jean Covey prepares for the end of high school and the start of adulthood, a pair of life-changing trips lead her to reimagine what life with her family, friends, and Peter will look like after graduation.”

What has the cast said about the final movie?

Lucky for us, the cast has also spilled some tea on the upcoming movie, and things aren’t looking good for our fave couple. Jenny told Entertainment Tonight in February 2020 that “fans should always be worried” about Lara Jean and Peter. “The third movie really explores what happens when you’re in a relationship and then you have all the real-life stuff that comes into play,” she admitted. “If I’m doing my job right, you’re worried.”

Lana added that her character definitely grows up in the third film, calling it the “most mature” out of all three movies. “She really starts to make decisions for herself that might be unpopular but I think at the end of the day, as a young woman, you have to protect your own heart and make the decisions that are truly right for you regardless of the other people around you,” the actress dished. “Lara Jean loves love and she loves the guys, but at the end of the day, I know that she’s good on her own as well. We’ll see. It’s very satisfying, like, ‘Yes, girl! Get your life!’”

She also revealed that “a lot of the movie will revolve around college.” She explained, “We tackle more real life because there’s really no distractions. It’s just him and I, and [we] figure it out.”

Get ready, you guys, because Janel also told Entertainment Tonight that fans “will see a lot more Margot in the third movie.” She also revealed that the next chapter of the series will explore her dad’s new relationship. “One of my favorite parts of the third film is watching this budding relationship with our dad and his new lovely, beautiful, sexy woman,” she said.

Oh, and did we mention that the cast was spotted filming the third movie in New York City and Korea, so it looks like there’s going to be some traveling in the third flick! As for the ending, Anna explained, “It’s beautiful.”

“We ended on a really, really good note,” Lana told Entertainment Tonight in September 2020. “I’m forever grateful for the character and I’m really excited for people to see the third movie because I think the third one is my favorite movie out of the three.”

She added, “I think we’ve watched Lara Jean and myself grow up through these movies and I’m proud of the way that we end with her. I’m hopeful for her future. I see a bright future for her, and I know that she’s gonna go off and occupy her space and do the things that she loves. Particularly in the third movie you see a lot of personal growth from Lara Jean.”

“I’m really excited for people to see [To All the Boys 3]. It’s a wonderful closing of the chapter for Lara Jean. Her graduation is coming up and it’s another big life moment for her. Another transition in her chapter. What I love about this film though, for me selfishly, is that there’s lots of sister time,” Janel told Entertainment Tonight in October 2020. “I got to hang out so much with Lana and Anna, and we really have become real-life sisters. We are so close. We got to go to Korea for two weeks to film and that was incredible. Being there with them and exploring Korea and the culture and being able to eat the food and filming there, it was wonderful. I can’t wait for people to see that you get a lot of the Covey sisters coming their way for movie three.”

During her Self magazine cover story from February 2021, Lana got real about playing Lara Jean, and saying goodbye to the fan-favorite character.

“Lara Jean has just been the biggest impact in my life,” she said. “I like the world that we got to make with To All the Boys. I like a world that is romantically driven and colorful and super quirky and loves pastels. Her sense of style and the things that she likes are unique and special, down to the pens she uses to write her letters, down to the bookmark she uses in her books. The tiny, tiny things I just love about her.”

She also recalled the final day of filming, and remembered being “a complete mess.”

“I was having the best day ever working with my friends,” she said. “And then my heart was also breaking at the same time, because I knew I was going to have to say goodbye to this character that has done so much for me and has just changed my life, has given me these insane opportunities, has just made me feel like I’m more connected to my community.”

While appearing on a February 2021 episode of the “Forever35” podcast hosted by Doree Shafrir and Kate Spencer, Janel said it was “lovely” being a part of the film franchise. “All of a sudden it was this amazing thing and this franchise, and now we’re making three movies … it was unexpected and really wonderful to be a part of of something that brings joy and positivity to people.”

The actress also touched on her relationship with her costars and gushed over the bond she has with Lana and Anna. “We really do feel like sisters,” she said. “The bond that we’ve created feels so strong and so wonderful … we feel very very lucky.”

When will ‘To All the Boys 3’ be released?

Mark your calendars, because the third movie is hitting Netflix on February 12!

Previously, Noah dropped a hint about when it was set to premiere. “You probably aren’t going to get to see the third movie for a while,” the actor told ET. “It’s not going to be like relatively soon. We don’t know when.”

Janel also revealed to ET that the movie will be out “in the beginning of the year.” Fans freaked out when Lana teased To All The Boys 3 with an updated book cover on Instagram in December 2020!

Will there be a ‘To All the Boys 4’?

Sorry, you guys, but since there are only three books in Jenny’s series, and based on Lana and Noah’s heartfelt goodbyes that they posted to their characters, it looks like the third movie will be the final TATBILB flick.
