Harry Styles' 50+ Tattoos: Guide To His Ink And Their Meanings

The tatted heartthrob! Harry Styles has racked up more than 50 tattoos since getting his first ink design on his 18th birthday in 2012.

“Anyone who says tattoos don’t hurt is a liar!” Harry told Us Weekly in November 2012 when breaking down a few of his tattoos at the time.

“I got two swallows on my chest,” Harry shared. “I like that kind of style of tattoos, like the old sailor kind of tattoos. They symbolize traveling, and we travel a lot!”

The One Direction singer has gone on to accumulate them all over his body — they cover his arms, his chest and his legs, and they’ve definitely become a huge part of him. In fact, the British singer even has one dedicated to the American football team, the Green Bay Packers. How did this particular ink design come about? Well, he explained the story during an NPR interview in March 2020.

“‘If they win the game, then I’ll get a Packers tattoo. And if they don’t, I won’t.’ So, I think this was maybe 2012, maybe 2013, and I only had time the day before to go and get the tattoo,” Harry recalled. “So I thought, ‘Oh, I’ll just get it because they’re going to win.’ So I got the tattoo, and then they lost.’”

The “Watermelon Sugar” singer also spoke candidly about his tattoos during a December 2015 appearance on The Late Late Show With James Corden. “Not so many regrets. There’s a couple I did myself that aren’t very good,” Harry explained, noting that he got his friend a tattoo gun. “I’ve got a couple stupid ones. I don’t know if I regret them so much. … I mean, I wrote ‘big’ on my big toe.”

According to former One Direction band member Louis Tomlinson, the boys all have a matching screw tattoo. “We decided — well most of us actually except for Niall [Horan] — as a band to get these little ones on our ankle,” Louis said in a January 2018 interview.

Right Bicep Tattoos

Harry’s first ever tattoo was a star on his inner left arm. It started out as just an outline, but the singer eventually had it filled in with black ink. He also added a Green Bay Packers logo later on.

He’s since added the word “Pingu” — the name of the penguin in a British children’s animated TV series — in August 2013, which is a matching tattoo with Ed Sheeran! Harry also has a coat hanger, “Hi” and a cookie tattooed on his left arm. Over the years, he’s added “NY,” “LA” and “LDN” as well.

Right Forearm Tattoos

In October 2012, Harry showed off matching tattoos on his right and left forearms that read “Things I can” and “Things I can’t.” However, in 2014, they were covered up with the eagle and a Holy Bible tattoo, respectively.

It’s hard to spot, but the singer has a small “A” inked onto his inner left elbow.

A Skeleton

In October 2013, Harry added a grinning skeleton dressed in a black suit with a red bow-tie and a top hat on the back of his arm. Harry got the words “Silver Spoon” inked onto the back of his left arm in January 2014.

Harry also has the name Arlo on the back of his arm, and debuted a new palm tree tattoo on during the 2019 Met Gala.

Chest Tattoos

Harry has two ferns on his lower stomach along with the giant butterfly right in the middle of his chest.

In September 2012, Harry got his sister’s name in Hebrew on his shoulder and “17 Black” off to the side. The “1957” and “1967” tattoos on Harry’s collar bones are the years his mom and dad were born! He also has a “G” and “A” around the same spot along with two small crosses with the letters “M” and “K” inked onto his chest alongside a broken heart.

His Leg Tattoos

Harry has also been spotted with small tattoos on his knees. The singer has also added the words “California” and “Brasil!” to his thigh. He also has a tiger tattoo, which is rarely seen. Harry has the lyrics “never gonna” tattooed on his left ankle and “dance again” on his right ankle, which are taken from the George Michael song “Careless Whisper.”

In July 2023, eagle-eyed fans spotted the name “Olivia” seemingly tattooed on Harry’s leg.
