Model Kendall Jenner has taken to Instagram and penned a lengthy message in support of the Black Lives Matter movement after her controversial, 2017 Pepsi ad resurfaced in the wake of George Floyd‘s tragic death.

“To everyone reading this and to myself: keep researching, reading and educating yourself on how we can become better allies,” the 24-year-old posted alongside a series of photos. “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking these past few days and my heart has been so heavy. I’m angry and hurt just like so many. I will never personally understand the fear and pain that the black community go through on a daily basis, but I know that nobody should have to live in constant fear.”

I acknowledge my white privilege and promise I will continue to educate myself on how I can help. raging on platforms can not be all that we do in order to repair the system, we need to take real action, off of social media. this is a time to have those uncomfortable conversations with people and mainly with ourselves. we must also make sure we are ready to vote when the time comes to elect the right people into office. the one truth that will always ring loudest is that BLACK LIVES MATTER. ❤️ rest peacefully George Floyd and all victims of this horrible injustice

She continued, “I acknowledge my white privilege and promise I will continue to educate myself on how I can help. Rest peacefully George Floyd and all victims of this horrible injustice.”

The social media message came just after screenshots and gifs from the infamous commercial were posted online. For those who missed it, the commercial showed Kendall leaving a photoshoot to join a protest. In the ad, the reality star walked up to a policeman with a can of Pepsi, which seemingly calmed the entire situation. At the time, both Kendall and the brand received major backlash, with some people accusing Pepsi of “glamorizing protests.”

Eventually, Pepsi pulled the commercial and issued an apology, saying that they “missed the mark” with the controversial ad. Kendall addressed the entire situation in a Keeping Up With the Kardashians episode from October 2017.

“I would never purposely hurt someone, ever, and if I knew this would’ve been the outcome, I never would’ve done something like this,” she said at the time. “The fact that I would offend or hurt other people was definitely not the intent. And that’s what got me the most — is that I would’ve ever made anyone else upset.”
