You might want to grab some tissues, you guys, because Riverdale star KJ Apa just opened up about his relationship with Luke Perry. During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the New Zealand-born cutie got pretty emotional when he reminisced on his time with the late actor.

“Everyone was pretty shocked. It’s not every day you come across a guy like Luke,” he said, holding back tears. “Luke is the kind of person who did everything he can to make whoever you are — no matter how big or how small — feel comfortable and feel welcome. It’s hard to put into words how that makes me feel.”

As fans know, Luke played the 21-year-old’s dad, Fred Andrews, on the CW series. And when the cameras stopped rolling, KJ revealed that Luke looked after him in real life too.

“We had a really close relationship,” he continued. “He would call my parents every week and keep them updated on how I’m going. If I had a cold or something he would say, ‘I took some Gatorade to his apartment the other day.’ Him and my dad were always texting each other.” OMG. How sweet is that?

“He made such a huge effort from the very beginning,” the actor shared. “I wish I could be like that.”

As fans know, the world was shocked and devastated when Luke passed away on March 4, 2019, after suffering from a massive stroke. And on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, his last episode of Riverdale aired. The series still hasn’t revealed how they’re going to address his tragic death, but showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa did confirm that Wednesday’s episode contained the final scenes he ever filmed. Ugh, our hearts are literally breaking.

RIP Luke. The show definitely won’t be the same without you.
