Everyone’s been mourning the tragic death of Luke Perry over the last few weeks. The beloved Riverdale actor unfortunately passed away on Monday, March 4, 2019 after suffering a massive stroke. The news shook the entire world, including his family, friends, fans and of course the cast of the CW series.
But after J-14 learned that the show shut down production that day, fans started to worry about what might happen to our favorite series. Especially after Deadline revealed production remained halted the next day. So when will the show resume filming? Will they cancel the series? What will happen to Luke’s character?
Well guys, don’t worry, the cast has resumed filming and there was even a new episode that Wednesday, which executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed was dedicated to the late actor.
“Going through pictures on my way to set. From the early days. With Luke in the middle. Our heart, always,” he wrote on Wednesday, March 6. “Tonight’s episode of Riverdale finds Fred doing what he does best — helping Archie. It is dedicated to Luke, as all episodes will be for the rest of our run.”

Ugh, we’re seriously getting emotional. As for the future of the show and his character, we unfortunately don’t know much yet. Cole Sprouse did reveal, however, during a recent appearance on The View that the show will continue on without Luke.
“I can’t go too much into the spoilers of it, but we do have something planned narratively,” Cole said when asked how they were going to deal with his death. “We dedicated some of the episodes to him.”
“He was very well loved,” the actor continued. “I mean, the whole world is mourning his passing. But, he was one of those guys that would rather have us all laughing about his great stories than mourning for too long.”
Roberto also spoke out about the fate of our favorite show.
“You know, honestly, we are, I think, all still in shock and are all still processing and grieving,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “We know that we have to address it in some way, but we’re giving ourselves a little bit of time and space before we figure out the best way to honor him.”
The executive producer also explained what a big part of the show Luke truly was.
“Luke was, is, and will always be a big part of Riverdale,” he continued. “We’re kind of a family and when a loss like this happens, you carry it always. It changes and it hopefully becomes a little less painful as time goes by, but you’re changed. When I was with the crew, I said, ‘It will never be the same,’ and that’s true because Luke was such a part of the show. There are still a few more episodes that have Luke in them, so we’re glad to share those. His spirit — which was so generous and wise and vivacious — we hope will infuse every episode, so in my mind, every episode for the rest of time on Riverdale will have a bit of Luke in it.”
As fans know, Luke played Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews, in the show and his character was honestly one of the most kind-hearted people ever. He always had his son’s back, and his constant love and support for Archie was truly inspiring. There’s one thing that’s for sure: The show won’t be the same without him.
In a statement obtained by J-14, his rep confirmed the heartbreaking news on the day of his passing. “Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke. He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends,” he said. “The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”
Another statement from Riverdale‘s executive producers as well as Warner Bros. and The CW reads, “We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”
RIP Luke. The show will definitely not be the same without you.
